🏈 CNS "I guess I must stutter. Did I stutter?"

And you guys wonder why Saban intimidates me.

Not that I would ever ask such a question but still. I know I'll be the odd one out here, but sometimes Saban goes a little overboard. I mean what was up with the hillbilly slang comment. C'mon, that was a little much. If it was Cecil he acted that way with I'll be very disappointed. Cecil should never be treated like that.

Cecil asked the question after that... the one about Ingram... he was still ticked though so he gave Cecil a smart-assed response... something he ordinarily wouldn't have done IMO (to Cecil). On the flipside, Cecil wouldn't have been dumb enough to needle him and try to get a reaction on the "pimp" comment.

He called out the fans on at least one occasion last year, if memory serves. He can be as rude as he likes and we, the fans which includes me, just eat it up. We make excuses for his uncouth comments.

Honestly, I don't care what he says. I just care that he does the job he is paid to do for the team that I cheer for. I just find it humorous how so many of the fans take up for him, your case just being one in point.

I doubt you were referencing a comment from last year in a thread about this week's press conference. I wasn't, and don't think he needs, defending, just pointing out that a pointed remark to a reporter doesn't constitute fan abuse.

Should have Kausler left it alone once Coach said he wasn't talking about it? Sure.
Did Coach have a right to get a little po'd? Sure

But, IMO, he goes a little to far sometimes when he gets a po'd at a reporter. It's not something that bothers me, but I can see how it might some folks.

These reporters know by now what will push Coach Saban's buttons. He knew what kind of response that smart-ass comment would receive. Saban had every right to say what he said after such a brazen display of disrespect. If I tell someone "I'm not going to talk about it" and then they get testy with me, I'd get a little angry too.

The reporters don't get bothered by it like many think they would... some of them even purposely try to poke him at times (Ian was famous for that). If they can get a good reaction, or a blowup, they know it will generate hits/views/reads. Just looks at yesterday... I had folks texting me, talking to me about it, folks that hardly follow UA football (other than casually watching games)... these folks probably didn't even realize that he held press conferences every Monday, but they were all buzzing about the hillbilly stuff.

It should also be worth repeating (I say repeating because I've said it several times before)... that while the reporters might have to put up with Saban's ire at times, he gives them great info to work with... assuming folks ask the right questions, not "depth chart" type questions. He gives great answers... 1000x better than Shula used to do. If I was a reporter, I'd MUCH rather deal with a coach who might bite my head off every once and a while, but provide me with a plate full of pertinent information to write about, than to deal with a guy like Shula who gave the exact same cookie cutter presser after every practice and game.

So I finally watched the presser. I can't believe this much is being made out of the two answers he gave. I guess I was expecting him to start throwing things or rip the University of Alabama back drop off the wall and wad it up. Really, it was just two sarcastic comments. Not a big deal to me, but that's how I communicate to people 75% of the time.

I don't see what the big deal is.
I've seen him go off a lot worse than that.
And the hillbilly coment was in referance to himself more than it was to
anyone else. I think he gets so amped up when he's pissed that he doesn't choose his words
as wisely. All in all he seemd calm and relaxed....even when his temper got to him.
But to give Coach credit...he handled it better than i would have. I'd have jumped down
Don's through on the spot. and the very 1st thing out of my mouth would have
probly been:
" Ya know what......that's a pretty stupid f-ing question. Did you not just hear me
say i'm not talking about that horse$h**!? Now you wana try and put 2 & 2 together
and try again an ask a better question or do i need to send you over to the math dept.
and get some one over there to help you figuer it out idiot!"

if he ever "let up" on the press do you honestly think they would be respectful about it or would they use the opportunity to try and nail him to the wall..

i think saban just uses circumstances like this to stay 1 up on them.. keeps them on their heels.. they are like sharks, the second they ever smell blood they will swarm.. saban just never even gives them the slightest hope that that chance will ever take place again..

it was just three short years ago that he was getting drug through the mud on a daily basis because of his decision to leave miami.. was the press respectful to him at that point?

i say they deserve ever thing he wants to put on their plate.. he is actually too soft on them.

RMFT!!!!

As a sarcastic person, I see nothing wrong with this. I actually think Saban pressers are great.

As a professional, I do see an issue. I realize he is viewed differently by you guys but he is a professional and should conduct himself accordingly.

That being said, this is the type of person he is and everyone knew that when he was hired. What you see has always been what you get with him and to expect anything to change is insanity. It is the way he is wired and part of what makes him a successful coach.

I absolutely love Saban pressers and find his flippant attitude toward the press fantastic. You remember, don't you, the same press that berated the U of A at every turn? The same press that called Saban a liar over and over again for coming to Alabama. The same press that said we, Alabama fans, were delusional because we chose to believe that Alabama could become again what it once was. This is the press that some of you are worried about, right?

It's part of the entertainment package that is Alabama Football. Football is an emotional sport and I love a coach that isn't scared to hide emotion. Maybe some of you good folks would like Mark Richt's style of coaching a little more. :lance:

I love Coach Richt's style of coaching.......... at Georgia.

For those of you that don't live in GA you're missing a very entertaining season thus far. Every week I think it can't get any better and every week they lose it just gets better. I'm enjoying the heck out of it. Only thing better would be if it was Auburn.

+1 on that one!

Saban KNOWS how to control Kausler-type journalists. First, he gave them a warning shot that he did not want to discuss the NC issue. The idiot journalist either did'nt listen or simply ignored Saban's statement and yet came back and asked about it again. Very dumb move and Coach Saban essentially let the guy know that he would not tolerate ignorance!
