I had pretty much cut them out until the Dr. Pepper Zero came out a few years ago. But I mostly just drink water as well.

I bought some of the Zeros the last time I had a soft drink. But like Coke Zero, it's sweetened with aspartame. Which, I've read, is worse for you than sugar. Plus the taste just isn't quite right.

Yeah, the Dr. Pepper version (luckily for me I guess) is the closest in flavors to any of the originals (from what I can tell anyway). Mnt. Dew Zero is probably next. The key though is to get them as cold as possible.. it helps with the taste.

My neighbor likes 7 Up. It had been YEARS since I'd had one, can't even remember when it had been so long. Anyway, he gets the 7 Up Zero now and he'll offer me one when I'm over there on occasion, usually to eat burgers or something. They aren't too bad, but I had sorta forgotten 7 Up was even a thing until he pulled one out of the fridge about a year ago.

Had to bring this thread back to life. I know Buc-ees is a controversial place around these parts, but I bought some of their beef jerky the other day and.... 1) they are proud of it. but 2) it's worth it. Probably the best jerky I've ever had. Lot of varieties. I got teriyaki and I think the other was called steakhouse or something? Both were A+.

I've given up on their BBQ. It's ok for what it is, but the buns they use do not compliment it well. IMO the BBQ is way overrated though. I almost always grab the philly cheesesteak burrito if I'm hungry. It never lets me down.

Quick snack for me from there is the Kolaches. My road trips usually include the Buc-ees in Royse City Texas..

Haven't tried those yet. Almost got one the other day, but didn't. I kinda like their chicken tenders too, but they are Texas style so they aren't for everyone. They are filling though. Their fountain drink selection though is worth the stop. Only place I've ever seen Dr. Pepper Zero on tap.

It is pricey, but I agree it's good. After including their jerky in most of our kids/grandkids Christmas stockings for several years, this last Christmas my wife went with other options for jerky - honestly, can't remember if it was Costco/Sams/Walmart or something else, just that we didn't make the $200 Buc-ee's run for snacks. Their selection is crazy huge, too. Were you in Loxley/Leeds/Decatur? Please don't say you supported the Lee County tax base...Bama has more Buc-ee's than anyplace other than Texas.

Not to muddle topics, but I'll say again that a place I find hard to pass up is the fried chicken gizzards of Heflin (or "Hell Fell In", as my Pap Pap called it). It's not just gizzards, but I rarely get anything else. Exit 205 Circle K across from the Love's. I get a small gizzard box. Watch out for the potholes, you could park a Prius in one of them.

When going to the VA, I pass it twice. Never been in one, wife only time once and that was in Texas as she was going on a mission trip to Mexico. Now our oldest GD might be a little more.
