🏈 Cash sought for Cam Newton

If Urban Meyer is behind this, whether or not Cam is guilty of anything, Urban looks like a gigantic douche. I already figured him for one after the "I almost died after the SECCG" story came out and he decided to retire, but wow. Talk about a pathetic display of professionalism.

Urban Meyer being a douche has been established for years. That fact just kinda dissappeared with time after the 08 Georgia-Florida game where he called timeouts at the end of a blowout.

If this pans out at all, AT ALL, they are done for the foreseeable future.http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footba...-pay-for-p?urn=ncaaf-283991#remaining-content
Two sources who recruit for Mississippi State said that Cecil Newton and his son, quarterback Cam Newton, admitted in separate phone conversations to a pay-for-play plan while Newton was being recruited late last year.[...] Prior to Newton's commitment to Auburn, one of the recruiters said Cecil Newton told him it would take "more than a scholarship" to bring his son to Mississippi State, a request the source said the school would not meet. Cecil Newton also referred the recruiter to a third person that would provide more specifics, the source said.[...]After Newton committed to Auburn, another source said an emotional Cam Newton phoned another recruiter to express regret about his change of commitment from Mississippi State, stating that his father Cecil had chosen Auburn for him because "the money was too much."
And boom goes the dynamite.Screw reading between the lines. In three paragraphs, we're presented with straightforward accusations that the current Heisman Trophy frontrunner and his father both a) Directly solicited money from a school and b) Admitted to accepting money from another school. Which, as a result, is currently undefeated and on track to play for the BCS championship. Cam Newton, Cecil Newton and the university all denied Schad's requests for comment.

It just keeps getting better! First it was Cecil to Rogers to Bond. Then it filtered through two people to Bond. Now there are two phone conversations where the Newton's referenced money.

Supposedly tapes of these conversations exist, where are they? With the speed at which the NCAA ruled Dareus, half of UNC and AJ Greene ineligible, if there were meat to this Cam would be sitting and it wouldn't even be Auburn's choice.

If Mississippi State knew about this as early as they did, why then did they continue recruiting Cameron until the day he signed with Auburn? I wonder if anyone there has realized that they are admitting wrong-doing at the same time they're accusing someone else of doing so?

Auburn asked for a review of all of this stuff from the NCAA in JULY. They cleared him then. The "new" report breaking on ESPN last night is a regurgitation of the same story from a week ago. Someone at ESPN or MSU has broken out their bedazzler and embellished some details but it is the same story.

Literally, I'm done talking about this. If there is a news report that does not contain the words "unnamed source" and "allegedly" I will worry about it. Until then this is all hearsay.

Yeah, it definiteily stands to reason that the Newtons ONLY asked money from Mississippi State. In the same link above Bob Stoops says everything was fine while OU was recruiting him. Auburn asked for, and received, a review of this situation by the NCAA in July and they cleared Newton to play. If State were asked for money, why were they continuing to recruit him until the day he signed with Auburn? Seems odd, eh? They were asked to pay, refused to comply but then continued to recruit him?

I posted this in the other thread--I'm done discussing this. Until there is an article that does not contain the words "unnamed source" or "allegedly" none of this has any weight. Rememeber how quickly the NCAA deemed Darues, all of UNC and AJ Greene ineligible. They've known about this since July. The information is just now making it to the media. That's why it is news. Auburn, the SEC and the NCAA have known about this since July.

By the way, Cameron Newton rides a scooter around campus. Certainly the ride of choice of a kid that just received a 6 figure payment for his salary, eh?

Enjoy your moment. Have fun piling on the the thrashing of a 22 year old athlete

If you think people are "piling on" here, then you need to go to tidefans.com. lol people here are at least being halfway realistic...

but I agree, either get some concrete evidence or stop talking about it

Well, i would hope it's not true, looks bad on the SEC.
And i hate to see a young athlete in a situation like this.
But, it seems like something new is coming out about this guy by the day, lots of smoke to be no fire wouldn't you say?
Hard to imagine all this just going away at this point.

.

MSU did nothing wrong by continuing to recruit him. Grant it, it was dangerous to do so (mere apperance of improprioty), but unless they were in a room with Cam and this guy when he asked, all they had to do was report it (which they did). They'd already put in the leg work, so a few more weeks, even for a long shot was worth it.

Okay Duder, be realistic here. First off, you know damn good and well that if this were a player from the University of Alabama that you and your pals over on AUfamily would be eating this up. I don't see too many people on this board posting far off from what the rest of the world is saying. Sure there's a few that are a little overboard with their theories, but for the most part no one's piling it on Cameron anymore then the rest of the sports world. Funny how AU simply wants to ignore any of the stories coming out. I don't mean just ignore either, I mean AU and it's fans are acting like nothing is going on, nothing.

As far as Cam and his scooter goes. After his 13 traffic citations he received in Florida, maybe the dude has no other choice but to ride a scooter around campus...

Monopoly Money to the Auburn Game???

How great would it be if during the Auburn game every time CAM NEWTON ran or passed the ball, that Monopoly "Money" fell from the sky. Swirling around the inside of Bryant- Denny. 101,000 people tossing that stuff would be classic

And classless...

We don't need to resort to things like that, we're Alabama!

Of course, it's not going to happen. But, I think that would be funny as heck Marine1995. Nice creativity.

Thanks for the contribution to the board. You should come out and post more often.

If nothing else comes of this whole sordid tale, I have gathered a conclusive OPINION of Cam Newton: he is a guy that has little allegiance to anything or anyone other than himself. He left Florida under still unknown circumstances, after making some pretty serious bad judgment calls apparently. Furthermore, he attended a JUCO far away in order to be able to play ball right away and not have to sit, and presumably, because the academics wouldn't be as challenging. Then, during some kind of arms race, committed to a school that he previously had no ties to. After every decent play he makes, he beats his chest and struts around, jumping into the stands and doing all the theatrics that generally a person with the team in mind keeps to a minimum.

And, in all likelihood, he's gone after this season for the riches of the NFL.

I just don't think that this is a guy that has "team player" written anywhere on him. Good riddance.
