🏈 Cam Robinson Injured 8/8 practice: UPDATE : returns to practice 8/9

Ask Brodie Croyle what it was like to have to have a offensive lineman who sucks, standing in front of him. When you type your answer here, do it in all "CAPPS."

That line fell apart when Closner went down and Britt took over center. Closner ... geez, don't get me started.

It's an easy out to point to Chris Capps in '05 as an issue. It's not entirely accurate. We lost three on the line from '04, had backups who were poorly coached in that season and started '05 with JB and Kyle Tatum as the only returning starters. Some talent would come out of that line, like Caldwell, but overall it was poor from the right to the left as a whole.

In a sense this is akin to the criticisms Tyler Love has received over the years. Yes, he was highly touted as a recruit and many have called him as a bust without taking the time to acknowledge the injuries he dealt with in his time in Tuscaloosa.

Capps receives a lot of flak, a lot deserved, but very seldom do you see people acknowledge that entire line in '05 wasn't very good.

Chris Capps sucked. That's why he received flak. Plain and Simple.

Hence ...

It's an easy out to point to Chris Capps in '05 as an issue. It's not entirely accurate.

Closner wasn't even close to be ready as a starter in SEC play. If your center is the one making blocking calls and he isn't well coached and isn't as talented as opponents he's facing, how do you think the rest of the offensive line is going to look?

The coaching Capps received while here wasn't good. If your offensive line position coach isn't very good, how do you think the entire offensive line is going to look?

Reminds me ...

2005. I was at practice following the Florida game when the Tide had ran them out of the stadium. As the offense was running drills against the defense I heard Closner yell out a series of numbers and words that made Shula's head almost explode (which was a first to that degree for me.)

"What the hell was that?"

In practice, before Ole Miss, he's goofing off to the point he's making up plays, blocking calls, assignments, etc., all the time thinking it was funny. Look, I knew Shula was in over his head. I knew Con was just that, a Con. And, I knew Closner was what he was.

But, when you combine all those together is it any wonder why the Tide looked so bad against LSU and Auburn that season?

Forest and the trees, ya know?

Robinson day to day with knee sprain

Aaron Suttles
TideSports.com Senior Writer

For the better part of an afternoon into the evening Saturday, rumors spread through the web regarding sophomore left tackle Cam Robinson.

First he broke his foot, then it was an achilles injury or was it an ankle sprain?

While it was true that Robinson was helped off the field, chatter of his season going up in flames were greatly exaggerated.

Robinson sustained a knee sprain, but it is not serious.

"He's day to day. He may be able to do some things today," UA head coach Nick Saban said.

Even as the talk of his injury ballooned out of control, Robinson laughed as the rumors circulated on Twitter and message boards.

"Those were just rumors, so I didn't feel the need to address them," Robinson told reporters during Sunday's team media day. "I knew I was fine. Just a little small injury.

Robinson said his left knee was rolled into during a play during Saturday's practice. A protective knee brace, that nearly all offensive linemen wear, saved him from the injury being more serious.
