šŸˆ Blake Barnett is gone

He just bailed on his teammates. If JH goes down, or the team otherwise needs him, he won't be there.

He quit like a child.

A Saban quote is apropos here...

I think he once said... "Great players don't want to play with mediocre players and mediocre players don't want to compete with great players".... At this stage in his career, Blake is a mediocre player with Hurts around....haha

You are mistaken. He's only been at Alabama for 1+ years. He's smart, but not smart enough to graduate that fast.

He can be a college graduate IF he took college prep classes in high school. Many states offer high school students the chance to take college credit while in high school. It is called different things in many states. Here in Ohio, we call it college credit plus.

He'd need a minimum of 120 total hours to graduate... that would be a tough ask even considering any possible High School College Credits acquired.

I don't remember if he was an EE or not, but assuming he was... He'd have Spring 2015/Summer 2015/Fall 2015/Spring 2016/Summer 2016 under his belt... average course load of 15 hours leaves 45 hours of HS credit required...

You can start taking HS college credit classes in the 10th grade. We have a current senior in HS that will enroll at UA next Fall as a Junior.

Damn.

Did Saban just say, Barrett is willing to compete for the QB position at another program but not Alabama.

Similar to another coach sayin a certain QB doesn't have the chest to compete for a position on their team a few years ago. Then again, he was talking about a QB that decommitted, not one that was already in his 2nd year of college.

I think that coach just got fired, but I'm not sure....

Nick Saban confirms Blake Barnett has left the Alabama program

A day after saying he was unsure if redshirt freshman quarterback Blake Barnett was still with the University of Alabama football program, UA coach Nick Saban confirmed Barnett's departure Thursday evening.

ā€œWe received word this afternoon that Blake Barnett has officially withdrawn from school and is no longer with our program. The quarterback position is a very unique position where only one player can play. We are very disappointed any time a player leaves the program who feels he can compete for a starting position elsewhere, rather than here at Alabama. We wish Blake the very best of luck in the future.ā€

Barnett started the first game of the season against Southern Cal and played the first three series of the game before Jalen Hurts got an opportunity, one the true freshman never relinquished.

Barnett, from Corona, Calif,. is exploring a transfer to a junior college in his home state, The Tuscaloosa News has learned. He played in three of four games on the season and was 11 of 19 for 219 yards and two touchdowns.

With Barnett's departure it leaves the Crimson Tide with Hurts, Cooper Bateman and David Cornwell on the roster. Alec Morris transferred to North Texas following the Crimson Tide's 2015 championship run.

Alabama has two quarterbacks verbally committed for the class of 2017 in Tua Tagovailoa and Mac Jones.

I can understand a kid wanting to leave if he doesn't foresee much playing time in the future. But what school (JC) would actually bring a kid in with the belief that he would get playing time with 25% of the season completed? Does Barnett believe that he can join a team, learn the offense, and rise to the #1 QB at this point (using the scenario some writers have pointed out that would allow him to join another FBS team in 2017)? I wish him well, but I don't think he's living in reality.

Not worried, Hope things go well for the young man. Now my opinion, I don't care, he got beat out, and nothing he can say or do will change that fact. Coker did this also and got one good year at where he wanted to be so good luck to you Blake. Moving on and hoping Hurts shines!!!!!
