🏈 Birmingham Iron suffers 1st loss to the San Antonio Commanders 12-11.

I'm thinking of starting me a Go Fund Me account! I have seen a lot of Go Fund Me starter for less crap! So why not for a poor man without cable! :giggle:

Well for you ones that will be watching the Iron's game today! Keep us that are poor cable people how it going! Like if Trent toss the ball again! :ROFLMAO:

Has that guy ever written or said anything in a serious mode?
I listened to his podcast a few times over the past season and when it came to discussing the Tide, or an opponent, he had some interesting observations that weren't meant "tongue in cheek." I've seen it suggested there are two or three that run that Twitter account but only one that does the radio/podcasts spots.

Personally, I'd put him in the same category as Stugotz on LeBetard's show.

The Iron have got to get that o-line fixed. It got to the point where Perez had someone in his face before he could even set up. Also, IDK how many more injuries the defense can take. They are dropping like flies on that side.

The Birmingham Iron drew another sizeable crowd to Legion Field.

Birmingham’s latest foray into a professional spring football league drew an announced crowd of 17,319 for today’s 12-9 victory over the Salt Lake City Stallions, a few hundred more than last week’s attendance for the season-opening 26-0 victory over Memphis.

Today's crowd has to be viewed as a positive, considering temperatures hovered around 50 degrees under cloudy skies.

The Iron makes its first road trip to Atlanta next week, and the next home game is Sunday, March 3 against San Antonio.

Last week, Iron coach Tim Lewis said he was encouraged by the team's crowd support.

“I hope they fill it up,” Lewis said. “I hope they take those green tarps off (in the end zones), and that there’s a need to take them off.”

After game 5 is in the books I believe we will see whether the new league is a go or not. The Ham has played two games in not so good weather but they still doing OK with butts in seats. 25K might be the top. I hope they have success thus the players and coaches will have jobs and continue to do what they really love in life. Hopefully Josh Frazier will be OK. The way that contact is worded regarding insurance makes you wonder if these players are on their own. Lets hope not.

We're in February and the reference to the weather has me chuckling a little.

I can think of many a game in November where I'd have loved to see 50 degrees and overcast. This kind of weather, for football, in February?!?!

It's pretty silly to suggest that attendance in March or any part of this first season is going to tell whether the league is "going to make it" or not. It's the first season of a new league. Anyone that thought Birmingham, or any other team, was going to be packing in 70,000 fans right off the bat doesn't live in reality. AAF has a great infrastructure with cities that can and should be able to work in the long run and a good plan. Very similar to the USFL. USFL's biggest issue was that they killed themselves by going too fast, too big, too quick. They originally set out with a pay scale set for each team similar to what the AAF is doing. They broke that when they wanted to draw in bigger talent like Herschel Walker, Doug Flutie, etc. and then after just one season, which had good attendance and good ratings, they expanded with new teams, new owners and more superstar young talent getting overpaid.

How things go this year is obviously important but how things go after the season is more important to me. Will the AAF try to expand immediately? Will the lure of putting up more money to draw in more "names" become too much? Also, something to look at is that Charlie Ebersol has said that they eventually plan to allow individual owners to buy into the league and purchase individual franchises. Ultimately that is what did the USFL in as much as anything else. They didn't vet several owners enough and ended up with "millionaires" (on paper but cash poor) way in over their head owning teams that they couldn't pay for. It also is what led to the bidding war for talent and ultimately the move to the fall and fight with the NFL.

I don't have a clue as to his financial status. I have seen a few mention the disconnect of "I just want to play football" versus "that's not enough money to play football."
TerryP I was going with what the Saturday Morning News were saying! You know Danna Jacobson she work on ESPN at one time, Michelle Miller, Anthony Mason. Well anyway it settle with him and another guy that now plays with Carolina. I can't think of his name?

And I was very happy they weren't willing to just throw around cash just so they could bring in someone that would create buzz immediately.

Any idea how much Tebow is pulling from his minor leagues gig?

Less than 20K per season but he did get a 100K signing bonus. Side note, Steve Spurrier and Charlie Ebersol reached out to him to try and get him to sign with the AAF but he said that he has moved on from football and is dedicated to baseball now. He broke a bone recently, so wonder if he will have a change of heart next season. If he's willing to make peanuts to play baseball, wonder if he would be willing to make a lot more than that (but a lot less than the NFL) to come to the AAF with the promise that they will try and help him get back to the NFL. Tebow would probably be a massive draw for Orlando. Keep wondering if AJ McCarron is going to think about giving this league a shot once his contract with Oakland is up or is he still above it?
