Old Man Mike needs to take his meds....
"1). Alabama's defense turns out to be far from impenetrable. We are always being accused of being frauds --- I'm wondering if there isn't a little fraudulence there. Georgia was "OK" offensively but I did not think particularly scary. If Everett has a good game, I see no reason why we will not move the ball."
Its not last year's Bama D but still statistically one of the best in every category. UGA's offense is better than ND's, particularly in passing. UGA managed 21 offensive points against Bama.
"2). Our quarterback, if he doesn't turn it over, is better than theirs, maybe significantly better --- certainly much more talented. Weird to say that going into an NC game. Our receivers also look more athletic than theirs, as a group anyway. They have nothing approaching Eifert, nor did Georgia."
SERIOUSLY? Everett Golson is BETTER than AJ McCarron? He makes this assumption based on the UGA game where AJ didnt put up big numbers but did put up big plays.
AJ McCarron 191/286, 2669yds, 26 TD's, 3 Int, 66.8%, Rating: 173
Golson 166/282, 2135 yds, 11 TD, 5 Int, 58.9%, Rating: 131
ND's recievers look more athletic than Bama's? geez... I dont know where to start with that one.
"3). Their running backs are brutal, but so are our tacklers --- we're bigger and stronger than Georgia defensively. Still those RBs pose our difficulty. Contain them, no ball turnovers, and we severely limit their scoring. Same verse, just like the first [twelve]. "
Yes you have to stop Bama's run to have a CHANCE to win. But you better do it without committing 8+ to the box or you will get burned deep. Ask UGA.
"4). Richt was an extreme bonehead on the final offensive play --- nearly inconceivable. Had Kelly ever done anything that bad, half this board [the troglodyte half] would never stop screaming about it. Saban though did something nearly as stupid just before the first half end. He didn't use one of THREE timeouts he had in the last half minute, and blew two shots at a touchdown. Our coach, gentlemen, is the better in-game coach. "
There's no doubt Brian Kelly is a better coach than Richt. Richt is the most perpetually underacheiving coach in the SEC. Saban is 4-1 in postseason play at Bama. 2-0 in BCSCG.
"5). Georgia's defense was out-of-gas and almost completely quit in the second half --- over 300 total rushing yards, and Alabama still barely won. We are much the more physical defense than Georgia. And better conditioned. And probably deeper. "
UGA didnt look unconditioned, the looked undisciplined.
"6). I am not sure that I would say that Alabama is clearly better than either Stanford or Oklahoma. Stanford's as tough, and Oklahoma's as fast or faster. Both are better than Georgia, even though Georgia is a good football team. "
This dude is off the rails here. Alabama is not better than Stanford or Oklahoma? Alabama is better than both of those teams from the coaching staff to the water boys. Unlike Alabama, Stanford really is one-dimentional. The Bama D would shut them down and the O would wear them out. Oklahoma is a finesse team, Bama eats those for breakfast. Plus "Big Game Bob" vs. Saban?
Then theres this other guy who said this:
"It's pretty well-known that Bama has struggled with mobile QBs which will be a big advantage. I like our match-up against them."
Yeah, Bama struggled against 3 mobile QB's in Sabans time there. Tim Tebow (but only in the first meeting), Cam Newton (for 2 quarters), and Johnny Manziel (for one quarter). What do those 3 have in common? A Heisman trophy. It would be more accurate to say "Bama struggles with ELITE mobile QB's".
They faced numerous other "mobile" QB's who are about the same talent level as Golson and beat every one of them, handily in most cases. Unless Golson elevates his game to Heisman level between now and Jan 7, I'm no more concerned about him than I was about Denard Robinson or Jordan Jefferson. Would anyone classify Golson as an "ELITE mobile QB"? Would anyone say Golson is as good as the only QB who beat Bama this year? Didnt think so.
