Like I said USC got beat by Org St a couple of week ago. Why wasn't they number #1 after beating the No#1 team.
By the way the polls have and always be nothing until the last game is played. 1966 & 1977 taught me that.

From a Bama fan's stand point I'm with the rest of you. I enjoy excitement, pride, respect, and fun of a good showing as much as the rest of you, but I'm looking for Championships.

But being ranked #1 does have some value, even in October.

From a recruiting stand point there has to be some value to being able to say that you are/were recently ranked #1. As it stands now we have to go back to, what, the early Nineties? Its subtle, but can we really say "we are back" before we have at least one week at #1? Until we are #1, the teams that we recruit against have that to use against us.

Being close is good, but how has "being close" worked out for Auburn? They will never be mentioned among the greats until they are seen as THE BEST at some point. And it is our #1 rankings that most eat at Alabama Poly Tech.

We were not #1 last year and got the #1 class in the nation in recruiting. Plus, wasn't that 90's team the worst recruiting class(ON PAPER) to come to bama?

As for being #1 that's just a big target for other teams to play you. A challenge every game. That could also be said for being #2 as well.

rankings don't mean a thing to me until the end of the regular season. Lets see where we rank then we can rejoice or gripe as to the reasoning. Let Texas bask in the glory of beating OU for their term at #1 may be short lived with the Mizzou Tigers coming to town for some redemption.

i know that it is only half way through the season, but i still think that alabama got the shaft. texas doesn't deserve the #1 ranking. they beat oklahoma and what other top 10 team. that is right they haven't played anyone else. the rankings this week show that the pollsters have knee jerk reactions. i wish alabama had of played this week that way they would have been #1. i just hope that our boys use this and crush ole miss this weekend to show they deserve some respect.

NOPE, they won't.

That's why Saban says don't drink that Kool-Aid. Rankings are just something fun for fans and pollsters to talk about during the season. They only mean something when the final polls come out in January.

Or setting Bama up in hopes they will meet Florida in the SECCG. That way if the Gators win, then he can say the Gators deserve to be #1 and have a shot at playing for the NC.
