Came across these today on a different forum so I thought I'd share, also it looks as though they are doing something major with the playing surface. Could the Field Turf rumor be true? Unless I've missed it somehow I have not noticed any hill or sink holes on the playing surface, and apparently the field had been laser leveled prior to the P.A.T. install in "98", now if Field Turf was installed you may have to crown the field for drainage, which to me looks like what maybe going on. I've laid sod before, and in there case (working with an area previously leveled) removing the old surface, disking down about 2", lay sod and roll it is all that would be required, so re-grading would be overkill for installing new sod.

They resod every single year, if they were digging down 2 inches all teh way across the field there would be a lot more dirt. All the dirt is from is where they put in the brick pavers all the way around the field. In order to lay a proper foundation for pavers and concrete you have to dig down 4-6 inches to unstall underlay for keeping the pavers level and creating proper drainage, I believe thats all you are seeing here

That's a good point about the access dirt coming from the Paver Bed, and relooking at the pics that is what it looks like. As for the 2" dig for sod not really; you’re not removing dirt you’re braking up or loosening the soil (power raking, but with as much area they have to cover they're probably using something that can cover more ground quicker) so the roots will take hold better, so at 2" the re-grading would be minimal to none. But all in all it looks like you’re right about the dirt being a pile from what used to be under the concourses rather than the field being re-graded, thanks for catching that.

I'm hearing from friends who work at UA that the expansion will not be completed by the San Jose State game, but they are still hopeful it will be complete for Penn State.

Really? From what I heard all major construction was already completed and that it was on schedule to be completed late this month or early August. Really hope it's ready to go.

By the way guys, here's a video showing off the new expansion as of July 1st.

What are they goign to do about all those tickets they sold? I'm sure there may be some details that wont be finished, but I'm sure they'll have those seats filled.

Who in the world's fight song (at least it sounds like a schools fight song) is that in the video? Also that looks like fresh sod (kind of) to me, although the visitors sideline looks a little brown and thirsty. I can tell that this is not a week old video though, and that it is new sod because there is no paint on the field anywhere.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

I don't what song it is, but that video is straight from the Bryant Museum's youtube channel so I doubt it's got anything to do with another school. As for when the video was made, it was July 1st.

I believe the song is a snippet of "Are You From Dixie?" with a little "Dixie" and "Oh, Susanna!" mixed in. It's a great old song. Grandpa Jones of Hee-Haw fame sang it many years ago, hammering along with his banjo, but it's from an early 20th century show.

An early, perhaps original, recording:

Jerry Reed had another song that he performed frequently called Alabama Jubilee. It was written by the same composer, George Cobb, and lyricist, Jack Yellen as "Are you From Dixie?".

Too much information, I'm sure, but these old songs hold my interest.

I'd love to hear the band do Alabama Jubilee @ the Penn St. Game. that'd be awsome. Very upbeat song. They don't play enough southern music anymore like they did back in the old days. And if i have to hear another blink 182 song.....:lance:

Observations from the video:
First, the only work being done is to the side walks (and the East side at that). Posts are in on the west but still needs more to be completed.
Second, seating appears to be all in place.
Third, this video may be more recent than the photos in that the videos shots of the sod show that there are gaps (needing to grow/fill in).

If there were to be any issues in finishing in time, it would appear that the issue would be inside, like bathrooms or concession facilities.

Also on the UA FAcebook page they Put in the new HD Video Screens on Fri.
I'd say we're in the home streatch. With lil over 60 some odd days to go.....having worked large construction prodjects in the past.....you'ld be amazed what can happen in so little time on a job.

They play the music that the current students/ recruits want to hear. You get at least on Sweet Home Alabama and Dixieland Delight.

I dont really have an issue with the music they play. The same goes with every sports arena. Songs come and go. Not sure if Alabama Jubilee pumps up the crowd. It wouldnt get me pumped up for the game.
