@It Takes Eleven brings up a question. I bought some software for the site the other day from a guy that lives overseas. I got charged a "transaction overseas fee" on my Visa. It was a buck and a half or so...not a big deal. But, it did catch me off guard. You know anything about that?

I remember you contributing to a get-together some of the board had a few years ago. That makes you "okay" in my book: you'll be treated differently than others.

Wayne is another. He's good folk.

Certainly not my angle.

I know we have a good thing going here, just trying to whatever I can to pay it forward. As mentioned earlier, the biggest contributors here are giving us their time. And TIME is all we really have to give. Some more or less than others.

In the very least I'd like to buy you guys a drink some time & @doemasters masters his lemonade.

With a healthy Nelson, this is a different bunch! The length and scoring ability no doubt helps. I’ll be honest too. He brings a hard nosed, blue collar approach to the game, an attitude that we lack without him. He may not be the most talented, but he gives 100% effort every chance he is on the floor.
As for this site, I found y’all when Saban climbed aboard and @TerryP and @Brandon Van de Graaff are like my brothers. I appreciate yo guys!!

You and your best have to trip over my way ... as soon as you get out of the drug smuggling business. I have that covered.

Just make sure it's not a test for future transactions...if it's a true Visa credit card, you can kick any unauthorized transactions back. If you used a debit card, the law is not helpful on this and you are reliant upon bank policy.

My PSA - if you are disciplined and have the means to pay off your credit card balance each month, then use it for every transaction you can. Your consumer law protections for a credit card are light years beyond what you have with a debit card.

The reason I caught the charge was reviewing the last month and paying it off. I tried calling BOA yesterday only to be left on hold for 20 minutes; or more.

I've purchased software additions for years and have never seen that charge.

And always put everything on cc....even at 2% rewards. Mounts up
And have protection from fraud charges...
But ..as you said...disipline

I get a monthly credit for rideshares and eating at Resy-eligible restaurants, which we rarely go a month without doing. Those credits cover most of my annual fee on the Amex, and I earn a ton of miles. We've used miles to book our flights to Europe, and I have my eye on a September hiking trip to Scotland. I can go round trip for about 80,000 miles and I'll tent all but two nights, so a cheap trip overall.

We just got a one-time offer on the Costco card for a 10 percent back if we spend up to $250 on dining out on the card. The evening at Automatic Seafood more than covered that, so $25 for paying attention.

I got a text a few hours ago about a charge at a bike leather shop in NYC. BOA notified me...

About a minute later, 270 something...also in NYC.

No clue how they got the number. Zero.

I'm getting it back...so there's that.

Bad stuff. Last Saturday I got an email thanking me for purchasing Shane Gillis tickets for a Houston show. Happened to see the email pretty quick. Jumped on the phone to shut off my credit card and received another email thanking me for my purchase of 4 tickets to a Spurs basketball game. Got it stopped before they could make a third purchase. They’d hacked my Stub Hub account. Only had that card linked thankfully.

Someone got me somewhere, somehow. I still don't know. It's funny with that card to be honest with you. I looked over the charges for the last several months and it's Walmart, or Home Depot, or Lowe's, or Publix, or Harris Teeter. All, legit places of business, right? Except...

Found out while talking with them there was another charge for an auto warranty on a Toyota (2003) I have. I rarely drive the vehicle. Hell, it has 136K on the odometer. I told the lady on the phone at BOA, "it's an '03, how the hell does anyone spend $90 a month on a warranty for an '03? Especially, when I do the vast majority of the work myself?!?!"

Literally, while on the phone..."do you see that charge at Home Depot? That was oil for an oil change. It was on sale. I'm going to pay a warranty on a car ... that I only have liability on because of how infrequently it is driven?"

MAPCO, METCO, something like that...

Tim used the word "disciplined" with his comment. I'm using the word "anal." I'm that way with my CC's. I rarely take them anywhere unless I haven't moved money to my ATM account. I literally keep my CC's, my checkbook, etc. all in a locked firebox. That's what I told the lady at BOA...there's no way anyone could have gotten their physical hands on the cards. Only one person has the key to that box...

In the end, no real harm other than the hassle of getting a new card, etc. The biggest thing that bothers me is "how."

I Had one compromised 7 years ago. Online charges from San Diego, Baltimore, NYC ,etc... -all for $12-$15.
The only in-person charge was at a BBQ joint in north Mississippi for $16.00. A teacher at my kid's school had same thing happen & we traced it back (probably) to a card reader at a local gas station.
