Just make sure it's not a test for future transactions...if it's a true Visa credit card, you can kick any unauthorized transactions back. If you used a debit card, the law is not helpful on this and you are reliant upon bank policy.
My PSA - if you are disciplined and have the means to pay off your credit card balance each month, then use it for every transaction you can. Your consumer law protections for a credit card are light years beyond what you have with a debit card.
I had a good one yesterday. I walked into my living room and noticed my mom was on the phone with someone on a number I didn't recognize. She didn't either, but answered it anyway. A guy with an Indian accent as thick as homemade sausage gravy..."My name is Jack, and I'm calling from BOA."
I told him, "I don't believe you are from Bank of America." He hung up, immediately.
I called that fucker back and told him "I was Terry from BOA and I needed to verify his CC information. I need you to get your card, and give me the number starting with 4400 .... told him I needed the next 12 digits to verify."
He asked, "do you need the last four?"
"No, I need all the numbers." Son of a bitch gave me his card info...all the way down to when I asked for the three digits on the back
"Why do you need that, " he asked.
"So I can charge your card for the sex toys I'm looking at buying."
He hung up again.
I called back ... got hung up on again.
I kid you not. The guy was trying to scam my mom on something...and I ended up getting his card info. Well, almost all the info...
Thinking of calling back again this morning and asked for the rest of the numbers starting with 5156 and see if I can get their MC numbers...it's a damn phone bank/scam room. You can hear it.
