I don't equate this at all with rushing the field in a college football game. In all honesty, I have never heard of an altercation outside of LaGarrett Blount hitting another player, of a rush the field incident that broke out. If you want to throw the Cal-Stanford Band situation, but that's more for a laugh than anything. The situation at Tennessee last season welded a phone being slapped out of someone's hand, but that is miniscule compared to what could happen when a 50,000 rush the field. That being said, these guys had some sort of agenda and singled out a player and zeroed in on him. That's way more alarming to me. Even as a season ticket holder that gets some nice business perks can't even get that close to Acuna for an autograph for my son. I don't mind students rushing the field, but I do have an issue with someone interrupting a game and harassing a player(s).

If I saw one reporter or media person last night comment that, that could have ended badly... then I probably saw 20. On the Acuña incident, it was ridiculous that 2 separate people were able to get near him, mush less all the way too him. But, nothing of any substantial worth will happen to either of them... probably a trespassing charge that'll eventually get dropped months from now on a forgotten morning in some downtown municipal courtroom.

On the college field rushing, to me, it's even more dangerous because the environment is more chaotic and more charged. Just incidents with Alabama alone in the last 2 years include more than the Burton stuff. Alabama has had their equipment pillaged (love that word) and stolen, Saban has been bruised up at A&M fans, and an LSU fan tried to fight UA staffer Evan Van Nostrand on the field on Baton Rouge. Sooner or later, probably sooner, something bad, will happen. Maybe it'll be players fighting with fans or some sorority girls getting crushed against a wall, 3rd world soccer style, as scores of fans push and and rush over top of them. But, unlike last night in Colorado, that behavior is celebrated... until one day it won't be. I don't get it.

I mean, of course in due time something bad will happen. Law of averages. But it has happened countless times with nothing like that to report. I will say, with today's society and how carless, stupid, and uncaring people are, I could see it happening more now that ever before where someone is targeted and something bad happens. Too many social media wannabes as well that increase the chances of someone getting hurt. I still don't mind it for college, but there is precedence there. I've done it once and it was crazy/fun, so I have a soft for it being done "responsibly" where you celebrate and don't lose civility once on the field by messing with the opponent, knocking folks over, or stealing equipment.

Now I just want to know what game you rushed the field on? Are you a closet Clemson fan?

Tossing this in here, since it has a baseball angle. Youngest boy got married last weekend, left for a resort in Curacao yesterday morning. Connection in Miami, and the Curacao Little League team are on the flight. They had to sit on the plane a bit longer while the president welcomed the team back.

They had a heck of a run, almost pulled it off. A grand slam to tie it, then they give up the walk-off...
