I saw this on X and it started me thinking ...

The SEC has 13 in; highlighted by eight teams hosting regionals.

Three didn't get in and we've talked a few times about two of them. A&M, to start, with their pre-season #1 ranking and they are out: not even the first four out as I recall.

Mizzou hadn't won a game all season until the next to the last weekend of SEC where, get this, they swept A&M.

UofSC. Just weird. The worst season in that program's history.

A&M's season may be the most sane of all three.

I didn't realize ... didn't think about it for a second.

If I saw one, I saw a half of a dozen media guys salivating over UF in this Coastal regional. I don't get that. I think the Chants are seriously underrated. We already know it's a solid program. They ran through the SB this season...I don't how many wins straight to close the season.
Kyle Peterson said “that while UF was getting healthier, they were still going to be without multiple starters from the beginning of the year!”

I ran across a number I didn't realize (think about) until seeing it on NCAA.com ... 1 of 4 regional #1 seeds don't make it to the Super's and it's been that way since '99.

So, four of the sixteen, right?

1) Southern Miss
2) ?
3) ?
4) ?

Wake being in UT's regional has my eye for the fourth.

Barn as well. I don’t NC State is a gimme
I haven't looked at that one.

If there are lines out for regional games, that Ole Miss region is one to bet on. GT has been pounding the ball this season. If they aren't top 10 in BA, they are close. I've noticed W Kentucky when I've glanced over standings/stats this season. They are normally front page: top 50.

There are going to be a lot of hits in these games. If you like offensive baseball, should be some good games to keep an eye on.

Clemson, with the Big12 conference champ as the #2 seed? The same team that made the Supers last year in GT. Kentucky can play good ball.

Northeastern is in Starkville for their Regional. I found this on X this morning: a shot of their home field in Boston.

If you are playing defense in right or center field, you're wearing spikes. If you are in left field, tennis shoes. Offense, spikes.

This is so wild to me. On a soggy field, if you are above the line that ball is still bouncing 20' in the air...below and it's plugging.

Looks like Quick is taking the bump tomorrow versus the Canes. I like it! You don’t want to try and come out of the losers bracket. It seems like the guys play with more confidence with him on the hill.

Haven’t been able to add much to the discussion(s) lately, hopefully soon I can get back on track some. Here's a couple of notes and opinions though as Bama heads into a big weekend in Hattiesburg...

UA announced today that they will go with Quick on the mound against Miami tomorrow afternoon. I had wondered which way they'd go here, and honestly, glad I wasn't the one making the call. I think it's the right one though, even though in a perfect world, you'd save him for game 2 matchup with USM. The problem is, Bama must stay out of the loser bracket... and Miami isn't terrible. So the most important thing is getting that win first. Maybe if there was more trust in the offense, you gamble a bit more and save him, but with an offense that has sputtered, you have to go with the smallest margin of error, and that's Quick. Hopefully, the offense can find some runs though so they don't burn through guys like Myers and Ozmer in a 3-2 type game. Miami will counter with true freshman RHP AJ Ciscar. Ciscar became a starter midway through the season and has pitched really well... 5-1, 3.77 ERA. He averages a strikeout an inning and opponents are hitting just .205 off of him. Bottom line, Bama's hitters better be locked in. Maybe some postseason nerves will rattle the freshman, but can't count on that. Again, this is a must win for Bama. Maybe a miracle would get them out of the losers bracket in the end, but this team isn't built for that situation in a regional like this one.

Off the field, it sounds like A&M will indeed fire their coach Ealey in the coming days. While there will be pressure on Trev Alberts to try and lure Vitello (again), that's unlikely to happen (again). Vaughn is expected to be high on A&M's list though... It's going to be interesting to see how it gets handled... and I do think there is a least a possibility that Vaughn takes the job if offered. But, I tend to believe this will be more like Oats and the Kentucky job... used as some leverage for a better deal and/or bigger NIL/Collective money pot (which is needed). It would serve Vaughn well however to advance out of this weekend and build up a little leverage though.

I think he would have left last season when the job came open. For the life of me, I don't know why Butch Thompson isn't sought after more.

One thing I meant to mention yesterday with this... OU is doing the opposite. They are saving their ace Kyson Witherspoon for a possible matchup with UNC. It'll be interesting to see how both work out... but if OU can get past Nebraska, I like their chances against UNC with Kyson on the mound. It's a gamble that could easily help them take that regional.
