🏈 BAMA vs Michigan in 2012?

I've got a mixed opinion on this match-up.

The idea of Bama vs Michigan is a great game. BUT, I know that this particular blog...and other Michigan sites will be posting things that will get on my nerves. Recall...this is the same blog that was on Saban about recruiting numbers barely a year ago..

As a Bama fan, I like the timing with respects to where the two programs project to be in two years. As a College football fan, I like the game - period.

I have to admit that that a Bama/Michigan game in Texas is really odd, but I suppose that these two programs can pull it off. This type of match up in this location does open up an interesting prospect. Unlike the Chick-fil-a Kick Off event which was a neutral site game not unlike UGA/FLA or the true Iron Bowls (i.e. within driving distance of the campuses), this Texas game is more like a Post Season Bowl game. If this goes off well ($$$), stand by for the SEC and ACC to be challenged by more distant conferences for the Atlanta and Jacksonville events.

The Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic was never meant to be SEC vs ACC. It has just worked out that way so far. Actually, it was intended to be SEC OR ACC vs another conference. As you know they had a commitment from UCLA for this year's game and Auburn would not play them. As you may or may not know, they have a tentative agreement from USC to play in either 2013 or 2014, although I don't expect that to stand up with them having a new AD and HC. When the agreement was reached, USC's preference of opponents was Bama. Personally, I hope the game does not happen now because the media wouuld tag it as the Probation Bowl or some such nonsense.

And talk about really odd. Try Notre Dame's off site home game at the AlamoDome vs Washington State on Halloween night in 2009. If they can draw 53,407 for THAT, then Bama and Michigan will fill up Jerry's place.

I'm not overly excited about the prospect of this game, and the biggest reason is Michigan's lack of competitiveness the past couple years. To be sure, having Rich Rod get spanked by Saban would be a great ego boost for Bama fans, but who really expects Rodriguez to still be there in 2 more years? Not me. I think the guy wins this year, and wins big, or he's sacked. Add to that all the NCAA mess......Ughhh. I just don't get overly thrilled about this one. Give us an intersectional matchup between two schools who are from opposite ends of the world: Bama - Washington in Dallas (yeah, i know UDub has been even worse than UM), perhaps, if we don't meet them in the post-season this year, Bama - Boise (pronounced boy-see). I'd write USC off for a while as their fans aren't going to be excited about much of anything until Kiffin is gone and they are out from under their probation. I'd put that around 2016-2017 before they are ready to be competitive again, and that's IF they have a good coach at that time.

Ah, I see you are among the ones who count the Iron Bowls at Legion Field as the true Iron Bowls. I saw quite a few at Legion Field and remember the 50-50 ticket split days. Those will always hold a special fondness with me, but, there is just something about the Iron Bowl being an on campus experience that Birmingham just can't compete with, in my view, anyway. As much as I hate it when the game is in Lee County every other year, it is awesome having it in Tuscaloosa. Of course, other than the 50-50 ticket split era, I never cared for Legion Field anyway. Plus, I can't wait until this year's game when auburn comes in to the newest version of BDS that now holds 101,000!

Wow. Just a thought. Can you imagine how made the state of Lousiana would be if we "Stole Saban" then turned around and helped run Miles off only to have those two face off in Dallas? You think the State Troopers might note the Alabama auto tags crossing the state?

Looks to be one of those Airplane trips.
