🏈 Bama players in the NFL -- Extensions for Alums, new deals for rookies

Since NFL free agency opened on March 9, nearly 200 players have gotten new contracts, including 16 from Alabama high schools and colleges, in the so-called "first wave" of signings. Here's a look at the deals signed by the state's free agents.

Dre Kirkpatrick, cornerback, Gadsden City High, Alabama

Kirkpatrick re-signed with the Bengals. His five-year, $52,500,000 contract includes a $7,000,000 signing bonus, $12,000,000 in guaranteed money (signing bonus plus roster bonus of $5,000,000) and a $2,550,000 base salary for the 2017 season.

Dont'a Hightower, linebacker, Alabama
Hightower re-signed with the Patriots. His four-year, $35,500,000 contract includes a $10,000,000 signing bonus, $17,000,000 in guaranteed money (signing bonus plus 2017 base salary of $1,250,000 plus 2018 base salary of $5,750,000), a $710,931 roster bonus and a $54,687-per-game bonus. Additional incentive bonuses worth up to $2 million per season also are available ($1,000,000 for playing at least 80 percent of the defensive snaps, $500,000 for Pro Bowl selection and $500,000 for first-team All-Pro recognition).

Eddie Lacy, running back, Alabama
Lacy left the Packers for the Seahawks. His one-year, $4,250,000 contract includes a $1,500,000 signing bonus, $2,865,000 in guaranteed money (signing bonus plus 2017 base salary of $1,365,000), a $62,500-per-game bonus and a $385,000 workout bonus ($55,000 for seven successful weigh-ins in May, June, August, September, October, November and December). Additional incentive bonuses worth up to $1.3 million also are available

Andre Smith, offensive tackle, Huffman High, Alabama
Smith left the Vikings for the Bengals. His one-year, $3,250,000 contract includes a $1,550,000 signing bonus, a $1,250,000 base salary for the 2017 season, a $15,625-per-game bonus, a $62,500 roster bonus and a $200,000 workout bonus. Additional incentive bonuses worth up to $1,250,000 also are available.

D.J. Fluker, offensive lineman, McGill-Toolen, Foley High, Alabama
Fluker left the Chargers for the Giants. His one-year, $3,000,000 contract includes a $1,500,000 signing bonus and a $1,500,000 base salary for the 2017 season.

Chance Warmack, guard, Alabama
Warmack left the Titans for the Eagles. His one-year, $1,510,000 contract includes a $500,000 signing bonus, a $760,000 base salary for the 2017 season, a $62,500 roster bonus and a $15,625-per-game bonus.

Do backup receivers typically get endorsement deals? Kudos to his agent.
Nike has been in a practice of signing one and all over the last few years. A business model that realizes there's going to be a lot of players that don't end up being household names but those that do will be wearing Nike. It's an approach that pretty much says if we sign 30, and 28 don't make it, that's 28 not wearing another brand but more importantly two that are wearing Nike.
