someone explain this to me. how does Auburn beat Clemson after having only two weeks to learn their new offense, and then after a whole offseason, they look terrible?

and does anyone think they have a chance against LSU??? i can't believe they were favored by a point the last time i checked the line.

I have to believe that even as giddy as I was during the MSU game, Auburn has to get at least some of the kinks worked out in their offense. They had a similar offensive melt down agains USF last season. But with that being said, I don't think that they will be able to chop block enough of LSU's defense to stand a chance. I look for it to get ugly and stay that way in a hurry.

As to why they beat Clemson last year with this pitiful offense, my only guess is that maybe they had better players on offense last year than they do now. Or maybe it was just luck.

Good point on the Clemson win last season with little offense. Didn't they use a little of their old style too though? Didn't watch the game, so I couldn't tell you...

I'm actually looking for LSU to win by at least 10. Yes Auburn's defense is good, but they haven't faced any quality offenses, especially one that is talented like LSU's. I don't even need to mention that Auburn's offense will be lucky to score more then one touchdown. I also don't think they'll be lucky enough to get scores from special teams and defense.

Either way it's going to be a good game, that I will love to watch with my Auburn friends. :D

Cody Burns was on the loose, and the element of surprise.

And they didn't look like world beaters in that CFA Bowl game either.

The spread is overrated, especially that kind of spread with very little option and power. Passing is for girls and doesn't cut it in the SEC.

Tim Tebow says hello. And Chris Leak. And Jamarcus Russel. And Matt Flynn. And.....

I see what you're saying, but you left yourself open for that.

Reason? Kodi Burns > Todd. I don't see why they aren't playing him myself. :?

I think his point was that those teams have power running games to go with their passing. Auburn's spread is not based on power running. Florida lines up and smacks you in the mouth. LSU does the same. They both run to set up the pass. The difference in 2005 UF and 2006 NC UF was their running game.

Big_Fan is right. Plus I am old school. My philosophy is that you do not have to pass to win. You only have to be able to pass to win. Passing just to pass is like changing for the sake of change. Its useless.

Burns has been hurt. Injured his right leg, calf.

I'll weigh in on a few of your points.

First of all, the Clemson game...perhaps I'm one of the few AU fans that will admit the "Clemson Effect" goes both ways. We are ranked as highly as we are and people talked about our offense as much as they did based solely on our performance against Clemson--the same Clemson team that many people said was overrated when you guys embarassed them. IMO, it goes both ways. We beat an overrated Clemson team which sparked the thought of "promise" of the new offense, blah blah blah. You see where I'm going with this.

As for LSU being a quality offense--perhaps they have some talent but I am unimpressed by their performance against North Texas and App. State. I think we can all agree North Texas is a terrible team and LSU's QBs were a combined 20/45 for 209 yards and a pick. Andrew Hatch was the JV QB at Harvard before transferring to LSU. CTT will force LSU's running backs to beat us and we, as we usually do, still have a solid rush defense. Our defense will keep us in the game.

As for our offense....there's really no excuse. Poor execution all around. Chris Todd hasn't looked terrible but he's far from a superstar. Kodi Burns had his playing time reduced by a cut on his shin that required 80 stitches to close (that happens against ULM). Stupid penalties and fumbles.

All that being said, I'm not terribly optimistic. I truly feel we do have a chance against LSU. Our defense will keep us in the game and if our offense can find an identity and put up some points and keep the D off the field long enough to actually get a rest, we'll win the football game. All the talent in the world on defense won't matter if the offense commits as many turnovers and penalties as we did against MSU and USM.

LSU has looked good on offense but let's keep in mind it was against an FCS school and a very, very lower rung FBS school.

Biggest difference, even though Auburn only ran about 8 plays in that game?

Brandon Cox, 25/39 passing...Kodi Burns just ran the ball.

You have to take into account Harper was playing w/ an injured shoulder and only had a little over 100 yards through the air...and their running game was average (save one long run by Spiller for 83 yards / 189 team total for the game.)

80 stitches? I had heard it was like 8 - 10 stitches. Was he playing a football game or hit by a train? I think there are some issues between the HC and OC as to who deserves to be starting. HC wants "his" recruit in where the OC wants "his" pupil playing. I think the Clemson game last year was due to the fact that Clemson was not as good as they were supposed to be this year. Also, I believe the Barn did use more of their traditional O with Cox in the lineup. Their O looks similar to the one that W. Kentucky ran. The HC has vowed to open up the play book this weekend, so I guess they'll score 6 points. Read where the OC was chunking the scripted plays and flying by the seat of his pants now. Most legitimate OCs script maybe their first 15-20 plays and then go on feel from their anyway.

uagrad93, I'm sure that was a typo on his part...he was cut by a facemask or cleat...but neither would require 80 stitches and if his injury would have been that serious it would have been all over the news, nationwide.

Nope, not a typo, link found below

"Junior Chris Todd has played most of the past two games. Sophomore Kodi Burns, hampered by an 80-stitch gash on his shin that he suffered in the opener against Louisiana-Monroe, is still learning the offense." http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/notebook?page=iform0804&lpos=spotlight&lid=tab4pos1 3rd paragraph from the bottom of the top section

I would hope so TerryP. It definitely would have gotten more air time than the Lester kid spraining his neck. But you know with the Barn, they probably believe it was a typo on the doctors' part.

How long of a gash would it have to be to require 80 stitches?

7"-8" is what I've heard

After suffering through a rash of injuries the last couple of weeks, Auburn appears to be on the mend. Most importantly, quarterback Kodi Burns showed improvement at Wednesday's practice according to AU head coach Tommy Tuberville.

"Kodi practiced a little bit better," Tuberville said. "He's still not running the ball, but he's really doing good throwing, releasing the ball well and really not showing any signs of his leg bothering him."

burns, who required stitches after suffering a 7-inch laceration in his left shin in the third quarter of the Louisiana-Monroe game, could be cleared to play this Saturday against Southern Miss.

"He's got a chance," Tuberville said. "He's got to be better tomorrow. He's got to get a good practice in tomorrow to have a chance to go."
