AMES, Iowa -- Iowa State University head football coach Gene Chizik will leave the school to take the head football coaching job at Auburn University
in Georgia, KCCI Sports has confirmed.
Sources tell KCCI Sports that Chizik had to make a decision about whether to accept the position by midnight Friday. KCCI Sports Director Andy Garman spotted Chizik at Des Moines International Airport early Saturday. Chizik was catching a departing flight. There was a commercial flight about that time headed for Memphis. KCCI Sports has also confirmed that Auburn University sent a plane today to the Memphis airport.
KCCI football analyst Scot Knock said on Friday that Chizik and his wife flew to Texas on Thursday to interview for the position.
