You are correct that Bama would be the BCSNC in that scenario. But I believe public opinion does matter, and I can not believe any other BCS team, and certainly not their fans, would agree with the BCS.

But, as far as the modern record books are concerned, public opinion doesn't matter.

I've often heard many people argue that if 'Bama were to receive the AP Nat. Championship vote during present day times like USC did, we would snap it up and be grateful for it.

Sure, I guess we would accept it. That doesn't mean that the AP holds the value it once did. Deep down, I think most 'Bama fans would say that we "chose" to become a part of the BCS and chose to recognize their poll as the only one that matters.

USC was #1 in 03 before the bowl games were played. USC won it's bowl game in convincing fashion and remained #1. Hell, even 3 coaches voted USC #1 in the final standings. It's not like the AP just arbitrarily jumped USC to #1 and crowned them NC.

If USC had been #1 in the BCS poll they would have played in the BCS Nat. Champ game.

I guess USC may have played in something called an AP national championship game but it isn't recognized by the rest of college football.

I guess they would have.

But, LSU, as an institution, agreed to abide by rules set by an organization that they voluntarily joined, which is the BCS.

USC also agreed to be a part of the BCS and agreed that the BCS would be the sole determinant of who would or would not be the NC, not the AP since they opted out of any involvement.

If LSU had been voted #1 by that 14 year old AuNeck kid down in Opelika they would be the People's National Champions, but that holds as little value as the AP currently does.

Enlighten me as to how the AP has any more relevance than the People's Nat. Champ poll in regards to who is determined to be the BCS national champion.

Please contribute a bit more than saying something is dumb or stupid, if that is possible.

The AP Poll's actual relevance aside, IMO they do a better job than the Coaches or Harris poll in ranking teams. Members of the media are much more open to what's going on between the lines.

Sure, the AP voters are usually well informed. I have no problem at all with the Associated Press. It really is a shame they balked when asked to be a part of the BCS, considering their storied history with college football.
