Steen was a three-year starter on Alabamaās offensive line and a part of three national championship teams. Steen was a solid pass-protector and a road grader for multiple 1,000-yard rushers.
But Steen, who is known as a tough competitor, seems regretful that a required shoulder surgery did not occur until after the conclusion of his final Alabama regular season. Steen suggested he should not have been playing.
āFootball, a lot of it is mentally,ā Steen said. āIf you can work through pain, you can go. But at āBama, that was the problem. A lot of things you went through and you shouldnāt have. You should have stayed off of it. Thatās why a lot of guys from Bama are hurt.ā

This, from a very good former Alabama player, is a damning accusation.

That said, he doesn't indicate he was pressured to play. He sort of implies it, but strong words nonetheless.

I don't get the sense that Jeff Allen & his staff would do anything that wasn't in the player's best interest. Anthony Steen feels different
Seems like he is implying that players had to play while hurt when they were at Alabama. Maybe he wasn't trying to say it that way, but that is how it kind of comes across.
