⚾ 🥎 And he should have been out.

Seems to be picky.

Played ball for XX number of years. Never heard of such.
I was at a d-2 game years ago (Valdosta state v west florida) and they called a kid out for high 5ing teammates before he hit home plate.

Everytime in little league, high school, and college your out if players enter field of play.

Thats why in you often see players crowd around home plate, in the batters boxes to celebrate.

Ive seen umps warn coaches for stepping across the line before player touched home plate.

Here's another way to look at the ending.

UT scored total of nine runs in the final book.

9-1 = 8, right? Here's -1. The one you see by 'blue' was on second. They are on the field of play. IF the rule reads that's an out on a dead ball, UT doesn't walk it off.

So, 8-8.

Now, -1. This guy was on first. (middle of the picture.)

Now it's 8-7, Wright State, with two outs.

He is out since they touched him: dead ball or not. Even if they allow the three runners he's out,:it's tie game with two outs in the ninth.

'dems da rulz.

I get being excited but what's happened to discipline? My coaches would've run us to death and my dad would've whipped my ass for acting like that. Tried to watch some baseball with my dad and the lack of respect for the game and the opponents is pathetic.

There's a divide out there that has extended all the way down to youth ball at this point... And there's basically 2 sides, the old school group that respects the "unwritten rules" of the game and the group that thinks the "unwritten rules" are unwritten for reason, and that there's nothing wrong with more spice and flare in the game (some would even argue it's needed). Personally, I'm in the former, probably because that was how I was raised and coached. IMO, the latter really started to take hold because of 2 reasons... 1) International players (mostly) at the MLB level showboat, a lot. Kids see that and think it's cool, then emulate it on their own teams. 2) Little league coaches who don't know the difference between soft toss and pepper allow it, if not encourage it, in many cases. A lot of these coaches have zero awareness of the history of the game and likely legitimately don't know/realize that it's frowned upon by many.

Personally, when I played, I wasn't offended if an opposing player hit got a hit off of me and pimped it, at least in the sense of feeling disrespected (though back then, it was rarely an issue compared to today). I did however think it was stupid for a guy to celebrate excessively for simply doing his job, and was taught at a young age that an appropriate response to that was two fold... winning the game, and when possible, letting the batter catch one in his ribs in a following AB. To me, that is how the game is self-policing. You want to flip a bat to the moon after a 3 run HR? Cool, do it. But if you want to be a peacock, you have to have some expectation that maybe it's irritating to the other team, and they get to take their shot.

Quick note on how some coaches handle it differently... in another thread, there's a photo making fun of UGA catcher Hunter Henry, the most egregious of the Chip 'n Dale Bulldogs. His coach, Wes Johnson obviously allows that shit. But Henry's former coach at UAB, Casey Dunn, a guy I know well and played with growing up... doesn't. Casey is in the old school group, and I'd bet good money there's not a clip of Henry out there running around the bases half undressed in a Blazers uniform.

But wait a minute."how many times do you see 3rd base coach "glad hand" player rounding third...after home run..... answer ...often

Didnt disagree it was a rule...just absolutely didnt know it was a rule...learned something..
First and third base coaches are on the field during play. The Tennessee issue is that multiple players came on the field (between the baselines). Watch a softball game when a player hits a HR. Where are the players waiting for the hitter to touch home?

I will watch for it next time. See if any is in field of play

I always thought. First and third base coaches have a coaching box. Often times third base voach is " down the line". Out of designated box.

During plsy he can get out of box but not while batter is hitting

I would think he is in violation ( technically).
Yeah there used to be a literal “coaches box”. Now they have more of a coaches “area”. By rule I think it’s 3 (may be 4) feet off the foul line and half way down the baseline “by rule” (I think that’s how it is now). Coaches can roam all the way over to the dugout and the on deck circle.
