Even though we did make a good bit of forced interceptions, quick passes I just dont think we did no where near as good. I couldnt tell if it was the linemen or linebackers that was having a hard time with their run but it didnt look pretty.

ill take the win though RTR

No doubt we are not as good with Hightower out, but I dont think that was the problem today. IMO, it was more playing flat for UK and having Ole Miss next week. On top of UKs Cobb is one heck of a player.

Of course they miss Dont'a. Cannot replace a player like that in the middle of the season.
D will be fine and get better as they get adjusted to playing without him.

why do so many thnk that 1 player makes or breaks a team....hightower is great no doubt....but it's time to move on without these hightower threads.....he's gone for the season and i wish'em all the best but we adjust and keep playin ball ROLLTIDE ROLL:td::a::td:

We miss DH. However, there is more than one way to skin a cat and we are so multiple on defense that we can give a different look and accomplish the same things schematically. Today we were flat on both sides of the ball. Every team has games like this. The great ones win them convincingly while not playing their best, which is just what we did. We played flat but won (actually covered the spread), had zero injuries, have a ton of good coaching points, and are ready to move on to the Rebs.

I noticed our DL was getting beat off the ball today, and I'm not too sure how or why. That is always a direct result in bad play from the LB's in a 3-4, excluding McClain of course. Not that they're were horrible or anything but they certainly weren't dominating. I know not having Hightower hurts but I believe it was more lackluster play then anything.

Agreed. But, I'd like to add one thing.

I tried to point out early on last week that Kentucky was the most balanced offense we had played this season. Out of the 300 yards they had on offense, 168 came through the air.

So far this season, we've been able to shut down one aspect of an opponents offense and make them beat us with their weaker threats. This just wasn't possible with Kentucky because of what they present on offense.

Schematically, it was our biggest challenge to date.

However, a good game for preparation leading into this weekend...

I thought UK looked good myself. Like other SEC teams of their caliber, they execute pretty well and score enough, have a passable D and a skill player who would star anywhere.
But they have their warts, and these cost them ballgames. Too many turnovers, weak secondary, crappy QB. It could be anything.
They will sneak up every few seasons and beat someone they aren't supposed to, but they'll lose quite a few they should have won.
I classify Ole Miss, Arkansas, Kentucky (new arrival) and South Carolina in this group.
The "Big Boys" are Bama, Florida, UT, LSU, Auburn and Georgia.
We used to be in the other group, and UT will be there soon if they don't straighten up. They probably ought to be there already.
No one cares about MSU and Vandy.
