| LIFE All of a sudden, I'm seeing the phrase "food insecurity." Where did that come from?

And for what purpose? Was there something wrong with the word hungry?

A few days ago I caught it on the morning news when they were covering a story about the food bank. It was the first time I'd heard the phrase.

Now, again today:

Bandied about more and co-opted for this purpose. I first saw it when I became disabled and food banks were our biggest source of non-perishable food. This was in ‘19. It was a term to indicate the possibility of running out of food before being able to acquire more or cutting it close.

So. Another manipulation of language to make someone feel better? There's nothing wrong with saying "hungry." Or, " it's hunger crisis."

Beating a dead horse again...language matters. There's always an intent.
