Ryan Clark gets it. And he's...skurred (smoke...I'm too old for all this new lingo)

Ryan Clark wants no smoke with Alabama.

The former standout at Louisiana State University and current personality at ESPN made one thing clear on Wednesday: He does not want the Tigers facing the Crimson Tide again.

“I see the set up happening,” Clark said on Get Up.

After an incredible second half for Alabama on last week, despite a 46-41 loss, Clark feels as though the College Football Playoff committee is setting up a rematch. He remembers the result from the 2012 BCS title game (2011 season) and surely does not want to relive it.

“I see the set up happening,” Clark said on Get Up.

“I see they threw Alabama the alley-oop. They put them right at five. I have seen this story before. In 2012, I was begging the world make sure Oklahoma State gets in. Oklahoma State won their conference… Alabama does not deserve it. It was the game of the century, let it sit there. Now, we have the game of the decade and now you are going to sneak Alabama in there and everybody is going to be like ‘they deserve it’ and they actually do because every time you put them in there – when people don’t think they should be there – they stinking win it. I don’t want to play them again. Let us live… Let us have our shine.”

Some big respect for Alabama from a former LSU defensive back; however, it might be a scenario he cannot escape.

Should the Tide convincingly win out the remainder of its regular season schedule and Georgia suffers a loss, Nick Saban’s bunch is back in the CFP’s top four.

Alabama handled LSU in the 2012 title game, 21-0, and Clark fears the same thing could occur again.

First...my full agreement with you...... they really dont want a rematch
My disagreement....i was at game...they were kicking our ass...we couldnt stop them....and to do so...when needed...would have been a miracle...along with our kicker making a perfect OSK....

They kicked our ass in the first half... that was not the case in the second half. It was very reminiscent of the Georgia games... and I would say one turnover and two three-and-outs in the third quarter would disagree with you, too. We did stop them. They just couldn't do it when it counted.

I just think by the second half the wear & tear had just played it's part on our defense. After the third quarter, they were toast especially the front 3-4.

I agree we could not stop them consistently but that was not unexpected going into the game. The reality is they could not stop us either especially in the second half. First Half LSU 33-13; 2nd Half Bama 28-13.

Agree on LSU not wanting a rematch. To me the difference in the game ultimately came down to turnovers. First half LSU got a few stops and we shot ourselves in the foot. 2nd half Bama held LSU scoreless in the 3rd qtr but did not get stops in the 4th when needed. They also did not get any turnover help from LSU.

We truly live in a bubble that has made our team into a juggernaut that won't quit. Even with a crippled defense, this year has been more than we could expect. My hopes were that our defense would improve as the schedule progressed to more tough teams. It hasn't happened yet. Even if we get to the 4th pick it is going to be tough to finish. JMO

I don't think the rematch goes in our favor...
On the other side of this one.

I'm no more impressed with LSU today than I was before the game. In fact, the impression reminds me of my feelings when Bama lost to Ole Miss. There were too many extenuating factors in the game excluding the oft blamed missed calls or Tua's injury and even the missed kicks.

What did LSU do in the first quarter that led to the two fumbles (Tua and Perine?) There's 10 points in a five point loss.

Hell, assuming the same script and Bama doesn't miss the kicks ... now that 10 points is 14 in a five point loss.

It's a loss and if that loss keeps Bama out? So be it. Given a rematch? If the team doesn't beat themselves I like Bama, a lot. It's no different that what we talked about last week. Avoid the mistakes that'll kill ya.

This!!!! Did not see anything that changes my mind based on what I saw Saturday. I certainly WISH that the D would play better but they did not. It would not require them to if Bama plays a clean game.

Alabama had the ball, 2nd and 3 at the 35 yard line, with 4 minutes and change left in the 2nd Q. 19-13 LSU at that time - Alabama ahead of the chains and a chance to go take the lead before half.

4 minutes and change later, it was LSU 33-13.

Those 2 plays at that point in the game were monumental. I am sure Sark would do them differently.

That is beyond the gift fumbles Bama gave up

I’m not saying we Bama doesn’t have a chance, I just don’t think any amount of time is going to help our D-line get off blocks particularly in the running game. The QB running the ball is the back breaker for Alabama. There is no way we can cover that with who we have now. Our hope would be in scoring 50+ points with a healthy Tua and in that alone.

You're sure Sark would have done what two plays differently? I'm assuming one was Tua's interception and that's not something you can label as a change Sark might have made in hindsight. They were running the offense.

Still, going with your premise here about being down by six and ahead of the chains ... Bama wouldn't have been behind by six at that point.

Earlier I mentioned Ole Miss. I'm not putting the LSU win in the same category because we didn't see some of the strange things we saw in that game: no balls bouncing off helmets, etc. However, I am saying Bama did themselves no favors with the play early on. As we saw them shooting themselves in the feet we also saw them roll out to that 19 -13 lead (which, as referenced, very likely would have been different without those mistakes.)

The second half of standing, waving, and asking "did you watch me?" One hell of a play call with their QB in the second, yes. The adjustments made at half did do a lot to curtail what LSU was doing on offense. One thing I've not seen mentioned his part of that adjustment was taking Lewis and Jennings and moving them back to their "original positions." Did you notice both playing inside a lot early? It was a defensive plan that didn't work.

That's one of a few things I've seen dismissed, or simply missed, when discussing the game.

In my view there's a reason we're seeing so many not want to see a rematch. Yes, some of it is coming from that fatigue factor. That is compounded by their knowledge that what's worked once won't likely work again when facing the same team. We've seen it happen before. The "fatigue-ers" have seen it before. Given the rematch, it's likely we'd see it again.
