"He keeps getting better week-to-week."

Marlon Humphrey said it after the pick-six, after Levi Wallace intercepted a Shea Patterson pass and ran 35 yards for Alabama's first non-offensive touchdown of 2017.

"Put Levi on the Thorpe list," the ex-Crimson Tide star tweeted afterward.

It may soon happen.

That's how good Wallace has been as Alabama's left cornerback.

Four years after joining the Tide as a walk-on who didn't have a single scholarship offer, this Arizona native known to teammates as "The Technician" is now establishing himself as one of the SEC's top cornerbacks.

"He's come a long way for us, and he's doing a great job for us," star defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick said. "I'm real happy for him. And he keeps getting better week-to-week."

"He's a great kid, and he's done everything that's needed to get where he's at. Nothing's come easy for him, and he's definitely had to fight for where he's at."

The latest honor: SEC Defensive Player of the Week.

That came on Monday after Wallace intercepted two passes against Ole Miss, including the one he returned for a touchdown to give Alabama an early 14-0 lead.

Through five games, the redshirt senior is tied for the SEC lead with three interceptions and is second in the conference with six pass deflections.

The nine total passes defended is tied for seventh-best nationally.

"If a quarterback wants to throw my way, that's fine," Wallace said. "I love defending, trying to go against the best receivers they have. But I just like to be in position to make plays."

Alabama's standout senior defensive lineman suffered a knee injury against Ole Miss on Saturday.

Only one player on Alabama's entire team has been named a player of the week on either offense or defense three times already.

Wallace.

He's gone from walk-on to starter to consistent player of the week. And, if he keeps this up, he could soon be in contention for some of those postseason honors like the one Humphrey was talking about on Saturday.
