Alabama to open 'Bama Cuts' barbershop at football facility
247Sports

Another addition is soon coming to the Mal M. Moore Athletic Facility.

Along with a new dining facility and the consideration of a new recruiting lounge, Alabama's football complex is getting a barber shop that will open Monday, per the team's latest Instagram post.

"Look good, feel good. Feel good, play good," the caption read. "#BamaCuts #OpeningMonday #RollTide"

Named "Bama Cuts," the Crimson Tide players will now not have to roam far for a fresh cut in Tuscaloosa.

Players tweeted blueprints of the barbershop in the past, only to delete them minutes later. But with Saturday's multi-picture post, UA finally formally announced the soon-to-be functioning facility.

More details on the latest perk for the reigning champs should emerge closer to Monday's grand opening.

Why does this sound like a benefit only available to athletes, and not to the rest of the student body, thereby making it against NCAA rules?

I imagine there are a ton of perks that the student body will never enjoy. Video games, whirlpool, guest speakers, white house visits, athletic apparel, a special diet designed for each player, now cool haircuts, etc...

It's a pretty common place addition to athletic departments now-a-day. When we were seeing the previews and stories leading up to the NC game against Clemson back in '15 among the things they highlighted--like the slide--they also talked about the barber shop they'd built.

Aside from missing a great opportunity with trimming Jaylen's mop, the slogan is a bit close to plagiarizing Deion Sanders.

Nobody is going to claim a slide is an impermissible benefit. As long as the barbershop has been checked and double-checked with the NCAA and there are no Title IX issues (since a similar salon is not offered for female athletes), I'm okay with it.

The reference to the slide was as a reminder of the piece ESPN did before the NC game. It wasn't to equate one to another.

My point was if we are seeing other schools do the same thing there's undoubtedly something this falls under which excludes this addition from being an extra benefit. It is confusing, no doubt.

The one thing I don't know--and I'll see if I can find out over the next few days if time permits--is if the hair cuts are free or they are something the athletes will have to pay for. I suspect it's the later but I will see if I can find out for sure.

One thing that crossed my mind is hearing some of the players talk about having to share things like sports coats, etc., because they either don't have one or can't afford one for trips. The way I understand the rules a school can't supply a player with dress clothes, but they can help them out with haircuts, etc.? Honestly, it sounds like a question for a guy like Infante--I'd imagine he'd know off the top of his head.

anything to give us a recruiting edge. I love it. Players pay 20-25 dollars a week sometimes to get trimmed every week. This will save them a lot of money and they can walk to the shop. I think it will also impress the recruits also. Great idea and you know Bama wouldn't do it if they haven't already cleared with NCAA.

Wish I had that kind of money when I was in college to get my hair cut once every month and a half, much less every week. Heck, wish I had it now.

Wow, never expected they actually had to pay for the cut. I understand the convenience factor, but what is the good to honest point? These guys spend enough time at these facilities that I'm sure they would prefer to go off campus for once and take care of something like this. The football facility gonna add a Zaxby's next?

Not a Zaxby's but the new dining facility added onto the Mal Moore building is pretty damn good!!

Convenience.

As I recall there was a hair salon on the bottom floor of The Ferg when I was in undergrad. It was convenient for on campus students. I was living on 13th St. during most of those years and it was just as easy to hop over to the mall.

Too much competition for bad chicken at Jack's.

Sadly, I never ate at the Jacks on campus during my time in Tuscaloosa, or even when I come to town for something. Always busy though. Is it any good?

Today, I'm not the one to ask. Back then...one of their hamburgers (as long as it was fresh) wasn't too bad. Nine out of ten times I opted for Arby's considering it was a few blocks away. Some swear by their burgers...almost to the point of those that love WhataBurger. Their milkshakes aren't too bad: at least that's how I remember them. With Sonic, Cookout, et. al., so close to my house now I'm probably not the best judge here either.
