🏈 Alabama safety Mark Barron arrested on misdemeanor charge

He most likely shouldnt do whatever he did anymore .

Terry, you arent iimplying a comparison between this and Auburn's 20 or so felonies stemming from armed robbery right?

just making sure.

Its a biggie in that he shoulda just been honest. I understand wanting to cover for your cousin but still. He was in the wrong. He'll prolly be running until he pukes but maybe no suspension. First AU fan I see compare this to armed robbery, I'm gonna lose it...

That charge is interesting given the few details in the article. False reporting to law enforcement would seem to be the suitable charge given the circumstances offered. Barrons cousin must have been injured when he left the scene of the accident...which is a felony.....even though it was a single vehicle accident and his cousin was the only occupant. Barron will likely qualify and receive youthful offender status or pre-trial intervention. His attitude with the officer carries some weight though....if he was an azz throughout the entire process, it could cause Barron a road with a few more bumps.

well, i understand his getting arrested, but i thought he had no moral obligation to tell the cop anything..

alot of people seem to act as if he was in the wrong.

He's not required, at all, to say a damn thing to the arresting officer. He is required, if he says anything, to tell the truth.

Changing the subject slightly...

A poster on 247 made an interesting observation. Only two players that Saban has recruited have been arrested. He also went on to make the point we had two academic all americans on our 2009 championship team.

I was camping all weekend so i just found out this morning from a barn fan at work....he tried to compare this and after i asked a few questions and he explained more of what happened i was quick to explain the difference!!! this guy come thru my office every morning....so for the last week or so i have been giving him a lot of crap....he was hoping to dish a little back at me but it ended up back firing

Technically, if you are involved in a traffic accident, you are required to stay on scene and give your information according to 32-10-2. With Barron being on scene, and being the owner of the vehicle, he is obligated to give his information to the LEO.

Furthermore, the 5th amendment does not apply to Barron's arrest. The 5th amendment simply states Barron is not compelled to be a witness against himself in a criminal case. Barron was arrested for not being smart.

Why in the world would he be willing to risk his reputation and the University of Alabama's (sorry but that's what happens when you're a star on a top football program) for his no-name cousin? I know I sound harsh, but dang. His mother and grandmother both pleaded for the truth, yet he was willing to get arrested for his cousin. :headscratch: Cousin must mean more to him than his relationship with Saban and the players. You know he had to think about "the team" during this episode.

How do I say this. Barron will never be a Greg McElroy, Mark Ingram,etc... His playing style and personality are rough around the edges, and he sometimes seems to let his emotion get the best of him in the moment. I form personal opinions just like everyone else, and I try not to judge. I'm thankful for Barron's hard work and dedication to the team, yet this case is just puzzling. Why make such a bad decision?

I imagine that his cousin didn't have a license or had a suspended one and Mark may have felt he was trying to help him. I hate that this happened but this is often the mindset of kids today. "Protect family at all cost even if it makes YOU look bad!" Having been in education for 17 years now, I have seen this so many times that to be honest, it didn't surprise me when I read the story. Even though I don't like it, I'll take this incident a thousand times over what took place at the Barn.
