| MBB/WBB Alabama Men’s Basketball Falls at Arkansas, 82-70

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Alabama men's basketball team fell to the Arkansas Razorbacks, 82-70, Saturday night in Bud Walton Arena. Alabama closed the regular season with a 17-14 record overall and a 8-10 mark in Southeastern Conference competition.

Junior Tevin Mack led Alabama with 14 points on the night, including knocking 3-of-5 shots from beyond the arc. Freshman Kira Lewis Jr. scored 12 points in the contest. Senior Donta Hall collected a team-high eight rebounds with sophomores Alex Reese (nine points) and Galin Smith (seven points) providing a combined 16 points off the bench.

The Crimson Tide played without starting guard Dazon Ingram (thigh) and Daniel Giddens (hand), who were both sidelined with an injury.

"Congrats to Arkansas because they played an outstanding game," Alabama head coach Avery Johnson said. "They played with outstanding energy and seemed like they got every 50/50 ball. (Arkansas forward) Daniel Gafford is a handful and looked like he was on another level from everybody on the court. We started the second half off turning the ball over, missing free throws – four out of our first five possessions were basically turnovers. You can't play that way on the road and expect to win. We will get back to the drawing board. It's probably a good thing that we are in a situation where you either win or go home."

After a back-and-forth beginning to the game that featured two ties and seven lead changes, Alabama used a 7-0 spurt to take its largest lead of the first half at 26-19 at the 10:19 mark of the first half. However, Arkansas (17-14, 8-10) responded with an 8-0 run of its own to regain the lead, 28-27, with just over four minutes remaining in the opening stanza. The Razorbacks didn't let up and scored eight of the final 12 points of the half to take a 36-31 lead into the locker room. In all, Arkansas outscored Alabama 17-5 over the final 10-plus minutes.

The Razorbacks remained hot out of the locker room as they scored the first four points in the second half and stretched their lead to 40-31, forcing an Alabama timeout. The Arkansas entire run that spanned halftime was 21-5 and lasted 12:46, helping turn a seven-point disadvantage into a nine-point cushion.

The Crimson Tide would battle back to cut the game to seven, 56-49, with more than seven minutes remaining in the game. However, Arkansas responded by outscoring Alabama 13-8 over the next four minutes, including 10 straight points by Gafford to help extend the Razorbacks' lead 13 points. The lead eventually grew to an insurmountable 18 points, 77-59, with over two minutes left in the game.

Gafford led all players as he posted a double-double with 29 points and 16 rebounds, while Isaiah Joe had 15.

Alabama's bench outscored the Arkansas reserves 26-23, however, the Razorbacks forced 15 UA turnovers to result in a 19-6 edge in points off turnovers. Both teams had 36 rebounds on the night, but it was Arkansas taking advantage on the offensive glass, outgaining the Tide 20-10 in second chance points.

Alabama earned the No. 10 seed in next week's Southeastern Conference Tournament and will face off against No. 7 seed Ole Miss on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT on SEC Network.

I didnt see Arkansas game....but a few before...
I watch this team...
I wonder...why... are they so inconsistent.....why are college players such poor shooters...why dont they know basic basketball( on inbounds after deflected ball...ref gives in bounder ball...he cant move...but Bama inbounder takes a step.turnover..Basic bball).. ....why such stupid mistakes and turnovers...
This team-is long and athletic....beat KY, took @TN to last seconds ( then a walk on last possession)...took lsu to last minutes ( then a lazy pass).. top 3 teams...
Beat, a walk, and lazy pass all in final moments .
Hard to figure

With CAJ I’ve preached patience and all that. Today showed me patience will be needed with the next coach, I don’t believe CAJ is the right guy for the job. Not that I’m the biggest watcher of basketball, but I don’t recall a worse played game than this one. Disappointed doesn’t begin to cover it

Perhaps AJ(family) would like to leave T-town and if so maybe he would agree to a lesser buyout amount. A fella can Hope.
If he wants to jump back to the NBA, and the departure is mutually agreed upon, I can see a major negotiation.

Isn't there a stip in his contract that if he resigns, HE owes major money? If so, maybe Byrne can waive that out of mutuality. "You want to go, and we want you gone, so we're all square"

Bama needs a Avery to XXXX situation like we did with Bill Curry to Kentucky.....hell maybe ESPN can help us out a little and offer AJ his microphone back with an increase in pay.

Cecil Hurt has penned two articles (one after the loss to the Hogs and another about the 10 seeding) and hasn't stated anything even negative about the teams play or AJ. We'll see.
