Charley McClendon (1962-79) won an SEC title and earned 13 bowl bids, but he was forced out by an alumni base which aspired for much more.

Most Devastating Bama Loss: After what may have been the worst half of football any Bryant-coached Alabama team ever played, Orange Bowl-bound LSU claimed a 20-10 victory at Legion Field in 1982, snapping the Crimson Tide’s 11-game winning streak in the series.

The Tigers beat Florida State later that year 55-21 to get a bid to the Orange Bowl, and proceeded to lose to Tulane the following week.
