Alabama appealed an NCAA ruling that declared 2012 signee Brandon Hill ineligible for the fall semester, coach Nick Saban said Thursday.
"There were some special circumstances surrounding this case, which I'm not really going to get into," Saban said after a preseason practice.
Alabama learned Wednesday that Hill, a 6-foot-6, 350-pound offensive lineman from St. George's High School in Colliersville, Tenn, did not qualify.
Hill said via Twitter that he plans to attend Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va.
"We're hopeful that he's so close to qualifying, that he will be able to qualify in one semester and hopefully join us in January," Saban said. "That's our plan, and that's what we'd like to do for him."
