I am happy with the selection of Nate and I wish him all the best. Pearl is the toast of the state as of today yet he has a 6-5 record vs Bama since he arrived. He was broomed by Grant on his way out the door and by Avery last year. Hopefully Nate can coach up his current roster and cull some of the others in addition to signing some talent that want to get better. Addition by subtraction could be helpful of the current group.
CNO is very passionate about his craft and very personable. He has had a great start to his career in Buffalo and I think and hope he will continue his success here. I like him and thank AD GB for his work.
Byrne said that heād had his eye on Oats for a while.
āIād been watching (Oats) for four years,ā he said. āSeeing a guy only a couple of years removed from high school ball become a Division One head coach is not common at all, so I started watching him. Two years ago when they beat Arizona (in the NCAA tourney), that was the first time Iād watched an entire game. They played like they had their hair on fire on both ends of the floor. They were executing and they had passion. I was like, āThatās impressive.ā
āPart of your job as an AD is you have to watch. You donāt want to have turnover if you can help it, but when that time comes, you have to be prepared for that.ā
I'm sure many of you guys thought the same thing I did, "he and his family will deal with some cultural shock." If they didn't get their first taste before the presser, it had to happen right here. This is as southern as it gets.
