I wasn't condemning anything.
In the other thread leading up to this one I mentioned two things I believe are of note. One, there's pro's and con's with each coach and two, some would be happy and others would complain. Neither of those two thoughts are earth shattering: by any means.
I'd like to revisit that for a second here.
Personally, I can see two reasons for fans to complain. And, at this point, they are the only two reasons I consider legitimate.
There are fans who wanted the "splash hire" when it comes to a name: the kind of that immediately makes the basketball world (fans, specifically) turn their heads. Names like Pitino and Donovan fit that bill. Oats doesn't carry that weight among a lot of casual basketball fans.
Secondly, I've seen many point to his relatively short time coaching collegiate ball. That's a valid point as well.
In my view that's countered by a few things. One is how I've heard him described by other basketball coaches and those I consider having a basketball minds. "He runs good stuff." In my opinion, coming from peers, it's a compliment of the highest order.
On a more personal note after spending time getting to know more about him I have a lot of respect for him and his family. His wife is a cancer survivor. From personal experience with family I know what kind of mental fortitude that takes. To me, that speaks volumes about the man and his wife.
