🏈 Alabama football, May 4th, 20 years ago ...

Shula was a nice guy, definitely not a HC though. Those players walked all over him!! No respect for him at all.
Don't really think much of him, positive, or negative. Thankful for that 05 year, absolutely stacked defense, who played like the best unit in the country at times. If one good think can come out of his time at Alabama, aside from that one year.... it be getting a certain player on that defense to come back here someday (if possible).

Joe Kines? He and Sparky are the only two coaches on that staff that I hold any respect towards. His defense was the 2005 team.

With a healthy Prothro and a healthy Closner that team would have still been exposed against LSU and Auburn. "So bad" is a compliment for that offensive line coaching job.

Aside from Shula, only two of the 10 coaches on the staff are still employed in football. Spark at UNC and Ball is at some directional school out west.
And kines is?

I for one was not a Kines fan. He appeared to prepare a team well but the game time calls were atrocious.
Much like last few years we dealt with

Some loved him though.

Since DuBose was fired, there have only been three Bama defenses that allowed less than 300 points on the season. All three were coached by Joe Kines.

Was great of Shula to help Bama through those challenging years but what he put out on the field was really bad. Allowing the clown show on the plains to own him year after year was pathetic. Worse time for Bama football that I ever experienced in my many years watching bama football. First time I ever felt Bama football might not recover. Very dark days. I had season tickets during those days and witnessed it first hand.

Let's just make a great hire after Saban retires(hopefully will be a while), and keep this shit going.

You know as bad as 1997-2006 was, I wonder how Tennessee fans managed up until last year. Imagine being a dumpster fire for almost 20 years lmao.

But remember...shula took a program on probation...with sanctions...
Limited recruiting...no bowl ( although me n ms50+ got a trip to Hawaii out of it)
And...his time vs AU was awful...that offensive line play was awful...
But
Mikes first season he didnt even have his team until fall camp... and implemented a different offensive system from what Price had in spring

Was a tough way to start

But..what had Tebow come to bama instead of Florida?

Hell, Coach Moore was the one that told Mike this was coming if he didn't change his ways...before the trip to 'Cola happened.

On another note, from a football perspective, Price was a better hire than Shula.
Yes, on the business side of things, Price was far and away better than Shula, who turned out to be our version of Derrick Dooley. Those deer in the headlights looks drove me insane LOL

I have a Mike Price Gameday Program from the A-day game that year. I used to always buy them on A-day because the had all the jersey numbers and players and when I was home watching the regular season games I could keep up with who did what. I’m convinced I’m going to make a fortune with it one day - either selling it or making an outlandish bet about it and collecting. Then again, probably not.
