| FTBL Alabama football coaching staff changes and updates...

Washington vs Texas breakdown in CFP - Some different concept looks obviously. Can see a bit of what Grubb does against good defenses. Just finds his playmakers and finds ways to put them in space and at worst in 1 v 1 situations.
Two things:

I see similarities to several offenses but sticking close to home and then back to home.

When Bama lost to UT two years ago they were hitting the open spaces but they were doing it through spread concepts: get as much space as they could before the snap and then it was "go, go, go.". The route concepts are a lot a like.

When Bama lost to TX two years ago, and what we saw from the time Sark was in Tuscaloosa, we saw the same thing (routes to wide open spaces) but his concept is/was scheming the receivers open.

I've seen a lot of people say "it's the Air Raid." It's not. There are similarities. I can't remember the total offense for UW last season other that it was real close to 7000 total yards. They were still close to 1800 on the ground with good yards per carry.

(DeBoer's experience playing and coaching WR's is going to be a huge plus this season.)

Georgia pages posting heavily on him being a coach there on Instagram. They are of course trying to do anything they can to make Saban's retirement seem like their window is open.
Lot of unknowns with Deboer and it’s scaring Kirby! But he knows he’s a winner and Saban still has an influence. And with a two headed monster in T-Town Kirby knows he’s trying to derail anything Bama is doing but, Bama ain’t going anywhere so look out We’re still the standard and Bama will be there week 4! Roll Tide!

Pretty similar stats from DeBoers Washington teams and Sark's 19 team. Not the same as the 2020 roster/team but then again DeBoer has never had the talent he will have now.

I think we're going to see a very similar system to Steve Sarkisian's system on offense. Not sure what the defensive schemes will be since it looks like he may be deciding to go with a new DC here.

Could say the same for Dabo, but Kirby wants a Saban type run. With coaching departures, transwr portal, NIL yadda yadda, a run like Saban's is a tough pull. That's why I say the window, because he could never get over that barrier that was Saban.
I'd say 2 straight National Championships is getting over that barrier.

Explore this, yes he won 2. One year he did not beat a Bama team at full strength in the SEC championship. He did beat Bama in the NC w/o their two 1000+ yard receivers. The next year he did not have to play Bama. The last time he played CNS and Bama was this year and we know what happened in that game. That does not seem like getting over the barrier. He did not do that while CNS was there and I argue he would not have his first NC if we had our receivers. No way to prove that of course....

I agree with this statement. I try to temper people's expectations of Smart. He's a very good coach, he's got he defense and recruiting down right now. Even with that he needed Todd Monken to make his national Championship happen on the offensive side.

I said this the year they beat us and last year, Todd Monken was just as much the reason they got the NC as Kirby. The defense was indeed stellar but that offense was perfectly executed when it needed to be. Our defense was also stellar/excellent but when he needed drives he masterfully got them down the field using the older QB and keeping the ball out of harms way.

I think 2023 they just dodged a bullet in avoiding us and caught UT at the best possible time to travel to Georgia. Then this year they caught UT away on a down year. Georgia's schedule the last few years has been very easy and just look at the SEC Championship game. They should've lost to us by 20+ points with all those picks that our guys dropped. /END RANT

I haven't heard anything different. Durkin's name is still there: not for DC as some have speculated but in a LB role. Roach as well.

If it indeed goes to Morrell it's going to be interesting. It look like he runs a base of a 4-2-5 that morphs into what we've seen as Saban's "sub" package with two DT's and two bigger linebackers playing the edges.

We may learn more intricate details. I don't know what kind of availability the coordinators will have with the press before we get to spring camp.

I've heard Morrell, I see some rumors floating that Iowa's DC is interested in finding a new home and is being linked to the Bama job as a possibility.

I think one thing that's lost in all this hoopla over Grubb and others is the addition of their O-line coach Scott Huff. Our guys were very strong and had good run blocking technique last year and had a good mentality. One thing he'll help that we were bad at last year is adjusting for blitzes and stunts. Good solid pass blocking techniques and as Brandon mentioned, will probably ask the guys to slim down a bit to make them more mobile.

I do not want to take away from what Smart has done. Give him credit but to act like he is fully over the barrier that was CNS and Bama is an overstep in my opinion. Smart knows how to recruit and coach and he will continue to have a really good program.

Yep. He did say "a touch of Washington:" the first thing that crossed my mind when I first saw Durkin's name. He runs a traditional 4-3, right? That would leave the DC Role to the Safeties.

That was the first thing he did when he took over the UW job.

We always have some interesting storylines to follow going into spring. The OL is a big one. There's a group of guys who have been to light to crack the rotation: like Brockermeyer. Then we've got guys we've been watching this past season who are going to need to lose weight.

It's one group on the west goal line, the other on the east...who gets to the ball on the 50 the quickest?
