Story Rolls with The King
check out the celebration....pretty good
From my neck of the woods. Kid played QB at Lanett and was a force. I'm sure they will find another position with his skill set but he's no slutch as a signal-caller. Hated to lose him to tenn.
I believe Nick and staff have given him the option to play QB or safety depending on how he performs.
Just wondering is he not more highly rated due to playing 1A?
Cool story. Super bizarre we always hear "Oh, Alabama won't recruit kids from small schools." Even more bizarre that there is a kid in 2A that just rushed for 3,500 yards and Alabama nor Auburn care to even look at him. The fact that he wasn't able to go to many camps probably hurts.
I’ve always been of the belief that if you are good enough, any school will come look at you. It helps if they have a coach that will “promote” them and hound those coaches. I played at a smaller school above Bham, while my childhood best friend transferred to a larger HS, because his Dad said “only kids from larger schools will get the attention of colleges like BAMA!” My HC sent film and called coaches all of the time. I had a few offers into my senior year, including BAMA before I injured my throwing shoulder. Only a couple of schools, OL Coach Jim Fuller and the BAMA staff offered me a shot at walking on and Coach Bowden at FSU, simply because my uncle and him were golfing buddies. A couple of service academies still offered a scholarship, but I wanted no part of the wishbone!!
Different times then. Now, everything starts by the time they enter the 9th grade and they need to go to camps a vast majority of the time.
As an aside, the team they beat (my alma mater) started an 8th grader at QB. Was barely even on the varsity team to start the year and they tried him some early in the season. He entered the championship game with over 1,500 yards passing. Not bad for an 8th Grader and not starting the season at QB.
