ICYMI, he's down to his final two: A&M and Bama.

Fisher has been pitching him to play QB in College Station, Bama has talked with him about QB and Safety. The feeling is he'll end up as a safety.

Damn... That is one smooth athlete! And he's not a little guy, either. I can see why he's a good candidate at safety but it's almost a shame not to see him on O somewhere. Regardless... great pickup. RTR

Cool story. Super bizarre we always hear "Oh, Alabama won't recruit kids from small schools." Even more bizarre that there is a kid in 2A that just rushed for 3,500 yards and Alabama nor Auburn care to even look at him. The fact that he wasn't able to go to many camps probably hurts.

I’ve always been of the belief that if you are good enough, any school will come look at you. It helps if they have a coach that will “promote” them and hound those coaches. I played at a smaller school above Bham, while my childhood best friend transferred to a larger HS, because his Dad said “only kids from larger schools will get the attention of colleges like BAMA!” My HC sent film and called coaches all of the time. I had a few offers into my senior year, including BAMA before I injured my throwing shoulder. Only a couple of schools, OL Coach Jim Fuller and the BAMA staff offered me a shot at walking on and Coach Bowden at FSU, simply because my uncle and him were golfing buddies. A couple of service academies still offered a scholarship, but I wanted no part of the wishbone!!
Different times then. Now, everything starts by the time they enter the 9th grade and they need to go to camps a vast majority of the time.

Yeah, it's such a different world. The kid I mentioned is probably going to end up getting offers from Tennessee and Florida and a big part of it was his coaches getting video out there.

As an aside, the team they beat (my alma mater) started an 8th grader at QB. Was barely even on the varsity team to start the year and they tried him some early in the season. He entered the championship game with over 1,500 yards passing. Not bad for an 8th Grader and not starting the season at QB.

Barbour County started an 8th grader this year, too. Didn't go quite as well lol
