Alabama kicked off its training camp with split-squad workouts in shorts and helmets Friday morning and night.

While it is the very beginning of a long season, Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban likened training camp to a final exam.

ā€œIt’s kind of like we had a class in winter conditioning, we had a class in spring practice, and we had a class this summer. Now it’s the final exam,ā€ Saban said. ā€œWe’re actually getting to the culmination of the improvements that we’ve made, how we can put it together as a team and put the best players out there.ā€

Senior nose guard Josh Chapman called the first practice ā€œpretty good.ā€
