🏈 About Greg throwing to Julio too much...

I suspect that Greg forcing the ball to Julio had to do with the pressure Ole Miss was getting on him. He didn't have adequate time to go through his reads and was forced to throw into situations where completions were less likely...in his defense, the balls were generally where Julio could catch it - or nobody could.

At least, that is what I think was going on.

I agree, I said this in another thread as well, Greg needs atleast 1-2 seconds of peace in the pocket until he has to start running, But I dont just blame the line, everyone blockiing did a poor job today. Greg is a pocket guy for the most part, the only quarterbacks taht can operate with that much pressure are mobile QBs.

Julio is still the goto guy it seems.

Agreed! That is why the pass play is such a team effort. The Line does their job, the other receivers have to get open, & the QB makes the right read & throw. Most of that was missing yesterday.

I don't know what it was. I'm just glad he did it for an entire game and hopefully that will squash anymore threads or callers on shows asking why Julio hasn't been thrown the rock so much :lance::lol:.

GMAC has seemed to be fast with picking up his reads before with rushes so I'm not sure what the "issue" was yesterday with target fixation on Julio. There were numerous times yesterday with Peek and others running crossing routes right in front of GMAC wide open (because the defenders were on JJ 2-3 coverage) yet he continued to throw the ball to #8.

Whatever it is he needs to go back to spreading the rock around. JJ seems to be having an off-season in comparison to last year. He drops the passes he normally catches, or caught last season. I don't know if it's the touch on the ball or what but others don't seem to have near the issue JJ does. I'm beginning to wonder if JJ is even playing 100% health or if his shoulder is bothering his mechanics.

Look out.....some people here with HUA syndrome may jump all over you for speaking facts about Julio. I brought this up three weeks ago and got lit into....:lance: He is not the "ball catcher" he was last year and Im convinced his route running has fell off too. His blocking though seems to be right on...once he locks up..he will drive his man way back.

Nobody lit you up... You weren't speaking any facts about Julio at the time. You were going on about one drop against VTech and one against FIU right after he got hurt. Excuse some of us for not buying in to the whole "something is wrong with Julio" based on that. Next time we'll walk on egg shells so you won't get so butt hurt.

So you are a self-proclaimed HUA :lance: Smart Guy...........:lance:

Nice one, you really got me with that remark. And just when I thought I was gonna be okay, you threw that second eye rolling emoticon and just blew me away. Man, you're just so awesome.

In all seriousness, I'll end it with that. I'm not hijacking the thread just because your little feelings are hurt.

I think everyone was covered. So who's most likely to catch a ball squeezed between coverage? Mr. Jones.

My personal take. Ole Miss brought pressure, moreso than McElroy had seen before IMO.

Not everyone was covered because if you double and triple coverage a single player, that usually leaves at least one person wide open. Unless of course Ole Miss was sneaking players in off the sideline ...or Tebow was flying them in personally from under his cape .

Peek, Maze and Hanks all seem to have great hands. I would agree if we were talking about the performance of JJ from last year but this year he seems to drop some of the "basic" passes, let alone the fades to the back of the endzone. Julio knows this too as you can tell by his demeanor after he drops a pass he knows he should of normally caught. I just wonder if he is 100% both physically and mentally this year.

Ive heard he may not be 100%, but after some of those drops he apparently isnt. He is way to much of a football player for it to be permanent, and when he actually has the ball he does special things with it usually. Eh, Id say the offweek after the Tennessee game may help him a bunch. It will be a chance to regroup, if hes still having a hard time at that point anyway.

I was at the game this weekend. What I saw was this: 1) Ole Sis apparently thought they could play man to man with Julio. EVERY time they did, Julio ran right by the cornerback. GMAC threw some balls that were not on the mark, but I've seen Julio catch those types of passes before. 2) As soon as the ball left Greg's hand, the defensive backs were literally hanging from Julio's shoulder pads. Never a penalty called. It was laughable. 3) The times Greg did not throw to Julio, it was almost as if it was not to seem so one-dimensional. Julio was open on every pass play when we weren't 1st and goal, but we obviously can't throw it to him every time. 3) Our offensive line struggled in the red-zone. This I have to give credit to the ole Miss D-Line for bowing up when they had to. Just a case of who wanted it more, IMO. 4) Our defense is will HURT you. We are solid on the defensive side of the ball. 5) Ole Miss is a drinking school with a football problem. Their fans were pessimistic from the get-go. I almost felt sorry for them, until they "Boo"ed their quarterback. Nine times out of ten, if you boo a kid on your own team (especially a QB), he will fold like a cheap suit. 6) It was an ugly win, but a win, nonetheless.
