Outkick's National Top Ten:
1. Alabama
The Crimson Tide is the best team in the country, but can we please stop talking about AJ McCarron as a Heisman candidate? He isn't. Period.
Based on the present AP top 25 Alabama will play 5 top 25 teams this year. The other three undefeated teams will play five.
So if anyone still wants to talk about Alabama's schedule, just stop.
2. Florida State
The biggest obstacle to the Seminoles finishing undefeated is a Tallahassee criminal investigation into Jameis Winston.
That's it.
Otherwise Florida State isn't losing.
But for as much crap as Ohio State takes about its schedule, why does no one point out that Florida State has played just one present top 25 team all season? Sure, they crushed Clemson, but it's just one decent opponent. The rest of the schedule is just awful.
3. Baylor
The Bears roll into Stillwater this weekend for a showdown with Oklahoma State.
Win that game and 12-0 becomes virtually assured.
But will the Bears win?
I like Oklahoma State's chances at pulling off the upset.
4. Oregon
Left for dead after the loss to Stanford -- who I've dropped out of the top ten this week for their second loss to an unranked team -- the Ducks are Ouktick's top one loss team in the country.
Win out and who knows what might happen?
After all, remember the past two seasons when Alabama's November loss supposedly spelled disaster for the Tide's title chances?
The Ducks aren't dead yet.
5. Missouri
Now that Georgia has lost and South Carolina has finished off its SEC season 6-2, there's just one question that remains -- can the Tigers win at Ole Miss and close with a win against Texas A&M? The Tigers have to win both or South Carolina will be headed to Atlanta.
Given that both these final two teams are ranked in the top 25 and that Mizzou would presumably then play Alabama in the SEC title game, a 12-1 Mizzou would end up the highest ranked one loss team in the country.
6. Auburn
When Auburn was up 20 points in the fourth quarter, I Tweeted they were the best one loss team in the country.
Then the wheels came off and Auburn needed a miracle to win.
The lesson? Outkick's approbation can be yanked at a moment's notice.
But right now Auburn is playing extraordinary football.
I can't wait to see what's going to happen in the Iron Bowl.
7. Ohio State
This isn't bias at all, I believe the six teams ranked above the Buckeyes would all win on neutral sites.
I don't reward teams merely because they haven't lost. I want to see who a team has beaten and played. Otherwise Fresno State and Northern Illinois should both be in the top ten as well.
College football needs to break the habit of merely rewarding an undefeated team.
Wisconsin's a good win, but after that Ohio State's schedule is just atrocious.
Ohio State did, however, get some good news, Michigan State won, which means that if the Spartans don't choke between now and December 7th Urban Meyer may finally play a top 15 opponent at Ohio State.
8. Texas A&M
The Aggies didn't play.
But Johnny Football's repeat as a Heisman contender is there for the taking.
Win at LSU and at Mizzou -- Manziel's never lost on the road as a starter -- and Archie Griffin will have company.
9. South Carolina
The Gamecocks were pretty awful against Florida.
But they won.
And South Carolina's schedule is brutal. In addition to the SEC slate, the Gamecocks played North Carolina and at UCF. Plus, they've still got Clemson coming to Columbia in two weeks. But up next is the lone cupcake in Spurrier's schedule, Coastal Carolina.
10. Clemson
Congrats to Clemson, who I'm bringing back to the top ten for the first time since the Florida State shellacking.
Out of the national title race, Clemson's season can still be a success if Dabo's boys can end the losing streak against South Carolina.
