He doesn't have pocket presence right now, SLO. That's why he's so quick to take off instead of allowing a play to develop. Even with a few weeks of practice in the fall, that's not something he's going to pick up over a matter of 15 or so practices. That's not even taking into account the speed of play at this level: one of the reasons I say "no pocket presence." Let's not forget, this is a pro-style offense. That presence is required.
Jake was in our system a year before he was able to get a grasp of the playbook—after how many years in D1 play? Hell, how many games into 2015 did we still see a lot of indecisiveness from Jake?
Consider this. When he and Blake were imitating Deshaun pre-NC game, do you think he was back there due to his ability to learn Clemson's playbook? Or, was it because of his speed and elusiveness?
A hell of a lot of potential, no doubt. However, he doesn't give this team the best chance to win. The question will be whether he 'shirts or not.
If I recall this correctly, Sutton was the first true frosh to start at UA.
Dollars to donuts, first day of fall camp we're going to see the same reports we've seen all spring with the rotation the same way it was yesterday.
