🏈 A-day review: Well We've Seen The QB's; What Say RTB ?

BTW (and I am not picking on Bateman here either)....I have heard since Bateman left the Bee Hive State about how he represented a dual threat. Has anyone seen the kid run the ball yet?

Point 1: He's still running Saban and Kiffin's offense.
Point 2: How many plays has he run on the field, during what situations, and what was the game plan?

Hurts managed to lead all QB's in completions, yards, TD's, and rushing yards while not having any pocket presence yet... and IF true this is a bad thing ?

First, I dont agree that he does not have pocket presence. It appeared to me that he has a lot of confidence in his legs, and knew he could extend plays by either moving the pocket, or flat out running. This had a much better result than the others that simply got pressured to the point of inaccuracy all day in the pocket. I think he was choosing the smart option. I want to remind everyone that TWO of Hurts drives were stalled due to factors beyond his control.

1. Cam Sims went out of bounds and came back to catch a perfectly thrown ball from Hurts that would have continued a good drive. Was called incomplete because Sims had gone OB before the catch.

2. Hurts was whistled down because someone got a finger on him during one of his runs for a first down. That tackle would never have been close if they were playing full contact. (this actually happened several times during the game to my dismay)

When you have a QB like Russell Wilson (probably the best comparison to Hurts), Cam Newton, Johnny Football, D. Watson, Mariotta, etc., etc., who cares if they have a hair trigger in the pocket if they are rushing for 70 - 100 yards per game, and those 70 - 100 yards are moving the chains, and gassing the opposing defense ? This is the only way any team has been able to beat Bama over the years, and this is the way that Watson almost beat Bama in the title game. Bama D was so gassed from chasing Watson all night that he was able to move through our D with almost no resistance in the fourth quarter.

This is exactly what we should hope Hurts does. Not like Bateman who is too timid to tuck and run. When Bama plays a dangerous mobile QB like the ones listed above is it not the gameplan to keep them in the pocket ? I'm positive it has been. Defensive coordinators seem to agree that they would much rather try to cover the pass than let a mobile QB scramble around extending drives because it simply destroys a defenses will/ability to compete for 4 quarters.

If D coordinators are picking their poison its gonna be pocket passer over true mobile QB every time. Especially at the college level. A QB than can throw and run simply destroys college defenses. How did Bama D match up vs pocket passer connor/Michigan State ? Now how did that same dominant D match up vs Clem/Watson ?

Hurts extending plays with his legs is the equivalent of body blows in a boxing match. They dont kill you in the first few rounds, but toward the end of the fight youre toast. I dont think it was a lack of knowing what to do that led to him leaving the pocket early... I think it was a product of good things happening when he left the pocket. His TD pass was on a roll-out.

You want a true mobile QB with Hurts talent and speed to run early and often. I can promise opposing D-coordinators want him to stay in the pocket.
Hurts is the guy

Point 1: He's still running Saban and Kiffin's offense. Not relevant to the question I asked.
Point 2: How many plays has he run on the field, during what situations, and what was the game plan? Part of the 3rd and 4th quarter against Wisconsin (4 yards rushing), the 2nd half of the MTSU game (6 yards rushing) and the 1st half of the Ole Miss game (0 yards rushing)

Got a good looking stride jogging off the field on 4th down!!!
