🏈 A-day review: Well We've Seen The QB's; What Say RTB ?

I would have liked to have seen BB with the 1s, but I thought he played well overall. He tried to force a few things, but his arm looked the best. Hurts played really well, too. Liked his effort and legs. Amazing that he is 4 mos. Out of HS.

Bateman and Cornwell had a much tougher defensive test. Bateman had some moments. Cornwell did not impress. Neither seemed comfortable with the 1s.

BB and hurts stole the show.

It won't be decided until the fall and this was our only snapshot (vanilla as it was) of the Spring, but from what I saw... I'd rather throw my hat in the ring with BB.

He was confident and capable. Did more to inspire and move the offense than either of the Crimson team QBs.

Very excited to see him and Hurts continue to grow. Both seem very talented.

I did hear CNS giving Hurts a "teachable moment." In the two minute Drill Hurts wanted to fight for inches instead of step out of bounds and save seconds. I think he may wind up being Bama's first Heisman Trophy Candidate from the QB position, but not this year.

Bama has had plenty of Heisman candidates at the QB position, most recently AJ who finished second. A distant second, but second nonetheless.

CNS said that Hurts had done enough to be in the conversation Before ADay. Then he comes out looks the best at the game IMO.

At a couple different boards I've seen some people say they like BB the best, but I'm lost how they arrived at that conclusion. (should be noted at those boards it is looking like majority agrees Hurts looked the best.)

BB fumbled a snap. Ran around all rat trap and almost knocked CNS over at one point while losing 20 yards or so. He is going to turn the ball over, and he is going to make bad decisions. He has proven that this spring. He is leading all QB's nationwide in interceptions this spring. (I'm kidding but only a little- actually there is a good chance he does lead the country in pick 6 this spring hard to imagine anyone else throwing more)

This is from someone who attended the scrimmage Before ADay

Hurts stole the show Saturday. Really played the best of the four. He's very, very, Blake Sims-ish. The play calling is different when he's in there (boots, short stuff), but he also stood in there and made some throws. Also has big-time wheels. Took off on a 60-yard scramble for a TD off a boot (although it was against the 3s), and ran away from everyone.

***But I'm telling you right now - don't sleep on this kid pushing for the backup role by the fall. I know it was only one scrimmage, but he's really good. Will be really interesting to see him and Barnett battle down the road.

As for Barnett, he just isn't ready. The pick 6 - which was not reported in the official stat release - was his, and it was bad (to Minkah). I mean bad. The game is still happening really fast for him.

Before ADay CNS says Hurts has done enough to be in the starting QB conversation. NOT BB... Hurts. The writing is on the wall. Deal with it.

We may just end up with our 1st true frosh QB at Bama. He's a coach's son from a big Texas HS program, so his football IQ is thru the roof, especially for a frosh. So, playbook knowledge shouldn't be an issue come fall camp. Kid is a student of the game.

If he works out well with the receivers in the off season, look for him to make a serious push... NOT just for QB2, but starting.

He doesn't have pocket presence right now, SLO. That's why he's so quick to take off instead of allowing a play to develop. Even with a few weeks of practice in the fall, that's not something he's going to pick up over a matter of 15 or so practices. That's not even taking into account the speed of play at this level: one of the reasons I say "no pocket presence." Let's not forget, this is a pro-style offense. That presence is required.

Jake was in our system a year before he was able to get a grasp of the playbook—after how many years in D1 play? Hell, how many games into 2015 did we still see a lot of indecisiveness from Jake?

Consider this. When he and Blake were imitating Deshaun pre-NC game, do you think he was back there due to his ability to learn Clemson's playbook? Or, was it because of his speed and elusiveness?

A hell of a lot of potential, no doubt. However, he doesn't give this team the best chance to win. The question will be whether he 'shirts or not.

If I recall this correctly, Sutton was the first true frosh to start at UA.

Dollars to donuts, first day of fall camp we're going to see the same reports we've seen all spring with the rotation the same way it was yesterday.

True. Originally I was going to write, that he would "... be the first to win..." however I then tempered my statement by adding "candidate" at the last second. I should have thought that part out longer than one second. :what:

BB and Hurts played against the #2 defense. Coach Saban even referenced it in his press conference. Paraphrasing he said the #2 offense was better than the #2 defense. BB and Hurts would have struggled with Tim Williams breathing down their neck. Would have been interesting to see both with the #1 offense to get a better apples to apples comparison.

Given the choice between what appeared to be 4 guys lacking "pocket presence", I'd prefer the guy who can run the fastest... lol

Even though Barnett has had a less than stellar spring, he impressed me with his pocket presence Saturday. I appreciated the way he stuck in there, went through his reads, etc. I could see an improvement over last spring.

Whatever floats your boat. Nothing about his play was impressive to me. Maybe it was that his bad moments were just really bad... I still would love for him to win the job

Cold beer. But what does that have to do with football?

I dare say you and I were watching the game with two completely different perspectives—in fact I'd say the chances of that being true are pretty damn high.

As evidenced by ...

What a boring half so far... Geez

Seriously, what were you expecting? What were you watching, specifically?

I honestly don't get why so much attention is paid to the QB position in scrimmages like this past Saturday when things are so controlled, so limited. They ran four offensive sets. Four. We as fans get as much of a preview for the fall as The Walking Dead fans get when they watch Talking Dead.

Personally, I'm watching guys like Jennings, Foristall, Kief, etc. getting a glimpse of what we might see in 2017.

But, whatever floats your boat, right?

Four sets and maybe 8-10 plays. Kiffin and Napier had only a handle full of plays to select from as has always been the case with A-Day. I would imagine that Pruitt and the other D coaches had a wider variety to choose from, even saw a Cat blitz a few times.

I looked more at our young O linemen, Kief, Foristall, young secondary guys like Sheffield, C. Miller, McMillon, etc. The future is bright!!:bamadance:
