🏈 A couple of thoughts/notes: Mike Shula, AJ's drive, injuries, and looking forward...

I'm having a bit of a flashback this morning. One, with DuBose and all those that took up for him using the line "he was a great player for us but not a good coach."

With Shula, I've heard the same lines over and over again.

Shula comes to mind again this morning. Specifically Shula and Al Bell with the winning drive versus Georgia. (It shouldn't be hard to realize why Georgia's On My Mind.)

This morning, that drive takes a back step. No, make it that drive is pushed down the ladder of great drives in our history. AJ's last night ranks up there with the all time greats.

Is there any drive you'd make higher on your list?

In hindsight, I wish we could have kept Amari on the bench last night. I believe we're going to need points Saturday and I also believe we could definitely use a healthier Amari.

I'll never forget Mike Shula leading the Tide downfield for Van Tiffin's game-winning 52-yard FG as time expired. Bama got the ball with 50 seconds left and no time outs, and Shula got sacked. And on the play before Tiffin's field goal, Shula had to wait several seconds to find an open receiver. He saw Greg Richardson dragging across the middle, hit him with a quick pass, and Richardson CARRIED the Auburn db out of bounds. The db was on his back was Richardson was DETERMINED to get out of bounds. If he had not done so, Bama would have lost. The clock would have run out.

That is probably the most emotional I've seen CNS. When AJ was interviewed after the game, I could swear CNS was starting to get choked up, you could see how proud he was when he mentioned it to AJ and hit him on the front of his pads.

I dont know if Coach ever gets choked up lol but you could def. see the pride in his eyes when AJ walked up.

We may have not liked the 3 Daves, but have to credit the Jefferson Pilot games for jump starting the glut of weekly SEC games, IMO

I wonder how many complained about the 2 Dave's but would love to hear them again?

Personally, I liked that trio.

They could be calling a Vandy vs Kentucky game with both teams winless and you'd think both teams were on the verge of winning the SEC.

This year I've heard at least five or six people ask where the JP game is for the weekend.

How could all of you forget the 1996 Auburn game in Legion Field?:icon_scratch:

Nothing has equalled that final drive for all the obvious reasons, no timeouts, Stallings retirement, it's Auburn, etc.

That game isn't forgotten.

It is overshadowed by a loss to UT, and ranks lower because of a loss to a 5-6 Mississippi State team the week before.

Great game, great drive. In the end, we were a 10-3 team without any ring.

If this season ends with Bama running the table, all these other drives mentioned here will take a step back in our historical perspectives.
