I hear about the Jack and Will positions all the time and dont know where they line up. Does anybody have and illustrations of how our defense lines up? With the titles of each player. I know your NT, DE, CB and safeties. Just not the Linebackers positions.

Thanks and RTR,

Mike:a:

The Jack is considered a hybrid DE with the ability to put his hand down for a 4 man front look and drop back into coverage. The Will is the weakside outside linebacker. Sam or Mike(Money) are the 2 inside backer positions. Derrick Thomas would've been the ultimate Jack LB if you want a comparison.

weakside inside backer is WILL, strongside middle linebacker is MIKE or just Middle, strongside outside backer is SAM, JACK is the DE/LB hybrid. weakside. somebody correct me if im wrong.

I think the "money" position is the dime-back....

here is a pretty good write up from last year on "bama sports report" that describes the LB positions.

This guy missed the call on our linebackers lol.

The problem for Alabama is that of the 16 scholarship guys at the position only seven have lettered. Of the remaining nine players, eight are either redshirts or true freshman. That is a frightening situation, with the typical problems caused by inexperience exacerbated by Saban’s complex and unusual linebacker scheme. If you look closely you will also notice that there are no seniors. In fact, of the four juniors not one of those guys is a rock steady, experienced guy. Reamer has bounced from defensive back to linebacker without ever really settling at a position. Hall has remained in the dog house since Nick Saban arrived and will sit the first 3 games of the season for disciplinary reasons. Anders has been a career backup, having taken what has seemed forever to adjust from high school defensive end to college linebacker. Fanney has totaled just 7 tackles in his career.

Yea the story made it sound like we were going to have trouble with our linebacking crew last year....

ok, sure - but you can understand why one would predict that a young linebacker group "could" have trouble with Saban's defense right? You could also say that we should see big improvements in our LB group this year as the system is developing and the guys are getting a better understanding.

the point of the article was to describe will, jack, mike, and sam to the OP.
