Ok I must be wrong because I am agreeing with 81 with regards to giving RW some grace.... This kid has a lot of upside if he can find some success and get his confidence back. I played slot/flanker in high school and went through can't miss stretches and then have one drop and you start pressing. It takes a little success to stop pressing. RW would be a major difference maker for Bama if he could find his way back in this next two weeks.

Williams has a ton of talent and ability when he gets the ball. He's gotta dump all the extracurricular and focus. I said it last year that him and Milroe were focusing elsewhere and it costed the team. Williams can be the best, but as others said, he has to pay that price and put that time in. Jeremiah Smith didn't just take off this year as many expected, but he still had a very solid year and is the reliable target a quarterback needs. You don't hear about him using every moment outside of the game doing NIL things. This is where I said it has hurt players, they aren't focused on the game.

Buddy, our fans love to run folks off. Simpson, Jam Miller, Hill, Proctor, Dewberry, Van de mark, Formby, Ryan Williams, Lawson, Jefferson, Saab, Hubbard, Domani, Talty, and Doud have all been wished away by some fans (that I've seen or heard from) at some point this season. Half the coaching staff too, starting with DeBoer.

Meanwhile... 11 wins, and counting?

That’s easy, he’s not driven enough to work through his weaknesses and get better. Are there any stories coming out of Tuscaloosa that he’s working after practice/before practice to get better? No there’s not.
And you're basing all of this on an assumption....
You don't need to hear the stories from ppl to determine he's doing this and that. I hate that you've come to this conclusion that he's not working hard to correct some issues based on something you aren't hearing coming out of T town.

That's ridiculous and stupidest take I've heard in the last 24 hours... And usually it's @24and7.....

Ryan is busting his ass in practice. He's well liked and he's working with coaches. He's just in his own head. @Brandon Van de Graaff e Graaff said this many time throughout the season.... He's in his head.. and he doesn't always have the best support system off the field.

Watch the sky cast version of the game and you'll see Ryan running his routes... He's active in the huddles and he's supporting the team. He was all smile after the game.

This doesn't sound like they gave up on him

I've seen players supporting Ryan and all. He's doing what he can to get better...

Remember what Saban said before... It's hard to fix issues during the season as they don't have time for that.

Don't be so quick to judge Ryan and you don't know the whole story....

Williams is incredibly talented to be 123rd in the country in receiving. When he does actually have the ball in his hands, things happen. The challenge is getting the ball in his hands. Paying him a bunch of money again next year is a risk; could pay off significantly, or could be lost opportunity cost.

Only half the coaching staff? I think I've heard calls for housecleanings, from the D at the start of the year, the O, then special teams, then O and so forth.

Stories or not, I can assure you he puts in extra time outside of practice working on his skills.

The post I made on RW was in reference to him leaving (rumors) if he thinks there are greener pastures elsewhere then go. No one has dropped more passes in FBS, he does not block down field. He is not showing great ball skills in game these are facts. And I believe these are the reasons he has seen less playing time. I hope he can make improvements I hope he gets his head right if that is an issue.

I’ve been surprised we haven’t seen more deep shots with RW.

Protection is probably part of this, but the deep ball catches seem like they would be easier catches for him, and he’s able to use his speed and body control in the air to make the catch - I know he’s had some drops on deep balls also.

RW is definitely a talent that we just haven’t been able to unlock this season.

Ok so now, for the first time, I’ve heard he’s working extra. I don’t have the ā€œconnectionā€ that you do. So why would I assume he’s working extra? It’s not showing in his play. And he’s getting paid anyway. Quick to judge? Look in the mirror.

This goes both ways. Why would you assume he wasn't working extra, just mailing it in? Do you think any of the starters on Bama's team just go through the motions? It's not "practice, then I'll see you tomorrow".

It's not about who has connections within the program. It's more of a common sense based on what I've seen.

If you go back and listen to the players and coaches talking about Ryan Williams all season long, you can connect dots from there. Combined with what the moderators on this board and it's pretty much easy to figure it out.

Then if you watch the tape using sky cast perspective that's available on YouTube tv, you can watch Ryan Williams throughout the game. He was open several times and he ran his routes. His routes wasn't always clean at times. I've seen unfair criticisms toward Proctor and yet he's all American. Fromby and yet he has graded out pretty good the last few games. Vandermark and yet he has been playing hurt. Miller and yet he is a fighter. People wanted CKD and Wommack fired but yet they continue to show up and trust process.

My biggest thing is let's not assume something about a player or a coach that we know nothing about.

Most don’t have the leisure to watch, hear everything about the program. That’s why I park here. Maybe you should have started a thread about the extra work he’s putting in?

I think what we see is a player that has been the best player period on any team he has played for. He did not have to worry about technique because he knew I am the top dog. He played last year using the same mindset, I don’t blame him it has worked his whole life. He was the talk of the town and he deserved it for sure. However, if you played D1 SEC football you know what I am talking about, he hit a wall and his production dropped. Was it film and defenses knew how to slow him down or did his body and work ethic let him down? The only thing I know for sure is that he is not comfortable catching the football with his hands. It appears that every drop he has had was about using his body and not his hands. Is he not being coached to use his hands, is he ignoring the coaching because he doesn’t believe he needs to use his hands, or are we watching someone trying to break years of successful bad habit?

Why would I start a thread about that? So you mean to tell me that most people don't have time to watch or hear about anything but make time to watch football game and criticize a player? I'm just asking.

Williams needs a different position.. A more physical rugged receiver that don't mind contact needs to be in his slot..Williams don't want the contact and is not built for it.. Williams is better running under open long passes...
