I ask this somehwere but can't recall if anyone replied, there was all this talk about no transfers post spring game as a positive indication going into year two under CKD. So what has changed if anything? No idea what is considered normal anymore but this is insane.

It isn't one particular thing. I think last spring the staff was satisfied with the roster they had going into year 2. And the spring portal wasn't nearly as active as the winter portal as a whole. Also, some were contactually locked into staying for the season unless they wanted to be financially penalized (for lack of a better comparison, think of it as trying to break a year lease 4 months into it). When season 2 ended, the staff picked up where they left off in trying to reshape the roster to how they want it (specifically the OL). But many players that left had their own reasons... a chance for more playing time, a chance for more money, a position change, etc.

Do you think we played hardball with Russaw and the bunch, and now they're gone for that reason, or simply highest bidder?

So reality no one transfering after spring meant nothing when the dust settled?

Supposedly more money for them and a promise of more playing time. Russaw got passed by Pierre while he was out with the hurt foot and I don't think that went over too well with him. But from what I understand, Bama wanted to keep both, but not overpay.

I don't think it's the D line, I think it's the system. We have a D that plays on stunts and gimmick formations. When we need to muscle up and stop a run, we are ill-equipped to do so.
Joe Kines, ā€œeventually you’re going to have to play football and stop somebodyā€. He was saying defense cant stunt/guess and be successful long term. Play football not games.

So, as the portal is entering into final days.... Teams are going to start locking down players for depth purpose and likely wrapping up their rosters in coming days. Bama got some work to do in the next few days. Bama will continue to sign players into next week or so. Right now, they really need to focus on OL/DL and then start building depth purpose.

Josh Jacobs was a pretty good all purpose back.
Was he? His career in the league doesn't resemble his career at UA. Out of the 40 or so games he played for UA I can only think of two games where he made a impact receiving; his last year, AU and OU (before Bama lost to Clemson in the title game.)
I also think Damien Harris had really good hands out of the back field.
Sure. But, he didn't fill that role of APB in my view. He was behind Josh every season from '16 - 18 (had a few more receptions in '18, less yardage.)

I look at it under these "rules," if you will. They weren't sending Josh between the tackles and they weren't sending Damien outside to see if he could get to the corner. That wouldn't fit "all purpose."

In Shaun's next to last season he had close to 400 yards receiving. (He wasn't far off that total in '99.) Josh did a little better when we combine his last two years versus Shaun's last season. (Two to one will do that.) Josh had A LOT more returns though he wasn't within 15 yards of Shaun's average return.

Honestly asking here, was there some concern out there by Bama fans that Hubbard was leaving or going somewhere? Looking at the X announcement from Yea Alabama people seem surprised and I don't understand.
They are clueless and I don't mean that in a derogatory sense.

Is this like free agency seen in the NFL? No. Is it like the draft? No. It's so far from the Feb signing day I'm not sure if I should include that here.

I'd think 95 percent of fans don't know how the portal works because it's unique and changing daily. If anyone doesn't understand how something works...what kind of reactions should be expected?

Whether warranted or not they'll be angry when they get news they consider 'bad news.' (Labeled "misses" in this conversation.) They get ecstatic when news hits that may be good: whether realistic or not (see the bidding war result with Coleman.)

These reactions? While they may not be immediate family, they certainly are first cousins to the reactions we see annually after week one.

How do you think the restriction to one transfer portal opening affected the process? I feel like it was more chaotic and hurried than previous years because the kids felt like this was their only opportunity to test the market so they jumped in whether they were ready or not. Like, well I'm not unhappy here, but this is the only window so I'm just going to test it out and see what happens. That kind of mentality.
