| GAME THREAD šŸ€ 2024-25 Season šŸ€ : NCAA / SEC Games of the Week. (Saturday, Jan 4th featured two top 10 SEC teams facing each other.)

In the North Dakota State game I kept wondering about Philon. Sounds like there was some discplinary things going on.
I didn't know anything about this until after the game. Guess it's over with. Could be something as not playing D in practice or showing up late for a team meeting.

Bama simply has to get better on defense if they are to come even close to what they have been aiming for, In this weeks press conference, Oats talked about the team that finished 3rd on defense was about the same place as this years team this time of year so obviously that team figured it out. In that same press conference he said he may have to sit people that are not getting it done on the defensive end. He should have the depth to do it.
Yeah this team not playing good D is puzzling. Like I said though in the previous thread, the '20-'21 team with Herb Jones that won the SEC and SECT and made a run to the S16 had a lot of similar issues early on with effort. We lost to Stanford, Clemson, and WKU. Could and should have lost to Furman. If I remember, Petty was suspended for the WKU for not giving effort in practice and in game.

Then it clicked come conference play and the rest is history.

Similarly last season. Even though it was in large part to having no inside presence, Alabama again started conference play looking for answers on D. Ended up making a run at potentially winning the conference until late and made a F4 run.

We've always had questions early on under Oats with turnovers and poor D. On ball D will improve as the season wears on IMO. Ball screen D and rim protection will remain suspect but the offense will be able to carry the load.

What matters is how guard play improves come March.

UF vs UK has been a decent game. UF can go on that run but I don't get the sense they can "take the run." They roll into T-town late in the season: I want to say next to the last conference game before AU. I got this feeling they'll be a shell of themselves in March.

Just a weird feeling watching them today...can't put my finger on it.
