Captain Obvious statement: It'd be great to see JT with a big bounce back this weekend.
JMO but JT is one of if not the worst putter 510-12 feet. (of all the best players). It doesn't appear his caddie is asked to give his opinion on how he might see the putt. After missing some shorter putts JT then gets mad and then his game starts downhill.

JT is 2nd by a few 1000's on the tour this season in earnings. 5.7 million

Jordon Spieth burned it up today at -7 63 and the leader in the clubhouse.

JT stinking it up and is +2 after 9.

Michael Thompson -1 after 7
Phil +3 in the clubhouse working on his text game
Robbie Shelton even after 18

Jason Kokrak is the Friday leader in the clubhouse at -10

JT is going to make the cut with a -2 after 36.

Michael Thompson at +3 and the projected cut is +2

Robbie Shelton at +3 after nine so he has to step it up.

Phil at +4 so he is headed home to work on his text game with Brady

How much (average) do you believe a pro has to win each week just to cover his/caddie expense for a tournament?

Travel
Lodging
Food
Etc

I will go with 5K

OK.......

To gain a better idea of how to break down a professional golfer’s expenses, let’s assume it was you that made the cut but finished in last at this past year’s Northern Trust tournament. Congrats! Your cash winnings totaled $19,475. Not bad for a weekend on the course.

Assuming you have your entry fee and equipment taken care of by sponsors and are current on your annual dues and initiation fees, let’s see how much of the almost 20 large will get deposited into your account on Wednesday (that’s the Tour’s “payday”):

  • Locker Room = $50
  • Caddie = $2,950 (weekly base + 10% of prize money)
  • Travel = $1,000 (flights, car)
  • Lodging = $600
  • Family/Friends = $300
  • State Income Tax = $950 (roughly 10% of prize money)
  • Miscellaneous = $1,000 (personal trainer, food, living expenses)
Total Prize Winnings = $19,475

Total Expenses = ($6,850)

Even though these are ballpark figures, about a third of your prize winnings will be reduced by obligatory expenses. A bit surprising, isn’t it?

While looking for that info I saw in one article that JT paid his caddie over 550k in 2020.
That’s a sweet gig. There was a local golfer here 16-17 years ago. Could light up local courses. Take everyone’s money. Trained for a tour and got in the field for a few lower level tournaments. Some local businessmen I knew got caught up in the guy and wrote a lot of checks to support him with hopes of ROI. A few of us cautioned them after the requests just kept coming. According to him, the fees and expenses were high. Dude was a different story in the pro events. Bottomless pit of money and took about $150k of these guys money in less than a season. They finally wised up and moved on.
