Am I the only one that thinks the first round of the playoffs should be New Year’s day bowls and not New Year’s eve bowls? Maybe I’m showing my age a little bit but I remember when New Year’s day bowls were they Creme De La Crème!
Yes, they've lost their relevance and are now the "first out" consolation games. This is a nod to the traditional NY games to make sure they don't have to compete with the playoff games for viewers. I actually like having the extra day of prep for the NC game, too, although I'm sure the binder for Michigan is already on the shelf, UGA's has been edited for the SECC game.

@bamascw

And ruins new year eve party attendance...but we got early game and will just be late this year...

There are four games on the 29th. The biggest spread right now is 3½. These games include Oregon, Clemson, Oklahoma, both school in Virginia and Iowa State. Three of the four have a 1 point spread.

Well, my lovely wife strikes again. We have four couples coming to our home for NYE weekend. It's not exactly like having to go somewhere else for a watch party, but I don't want to accidentally kick or hit someone while I'm flailing about during the game.

Frailing is common place here. If you can hear it over ms50+. Who thinks team can hear her through tv!!!!!

Although there are too many bowls these days, it is more college football to see, so I'll take it. Because, remember, once the season is over, excluding A day, it is a solid 8 months before there is any ball again. So long as the CFP NCG is the season finale. I hate it when they stick a bowl game (especially a low tier bowl game) the night after the national championship game
