I can't recall any of the great coaches that were "great" right from the first job or anyone else for that matter. Who in their right mind pays SEC big program money to someone to "learn on the job"?
Hell, I didn't start out being responsible for the maintenance and tooling for a manufacturing facility. I ran a band saw, swept floors and various other crap work.

I can recall many coaches who were bad as head coaches and it was evident from their first year on the job--in some cases first game of their first year.

I've said what my opinion is on the job Goff did last year. Let's leave UGA alone for a minute. Let's take Dubose for a minute. When Bama played Houston my reaction after the game was a groan. After shutting out Vandy on the road, it was "oh no." After losing to Arkansas (who won four games in '97) it was "oh shit." After Kentucky? If there was a shirt that said "Boot Bob," I probably would have worn it every day.

John Vaught was an exception. He went 9-2 in his first job as a HC at Ole Miss and won the SEC Championship.

Often overlooked in the annual threads of "The Mt. Rushmore of SEC coaches." Only two had a winning record against him, and that was by just one game--Bryant and Neyland.

That '47 season was a really tough one on a lot of schools being so close to the close of WWII.

According to stassen.com, Coach Bryant was 6-2 against Vaught. Didn't realize they had never scheduled each other until after the 1964 Sugar Bowl.

A guy I ran into on a message board in the past wrote that, asked if I wanted it, and sent it. Almost a paperback version of Bryant in a WLT form, etc.

Reminder that CBS does NOT have a contract with the SEC the first two weeks. They lease those games from ESPN. CBS may wind up with the other FSU at Bama in week two. ESPN will almost assuredly keep SC at MO and TCU at ARK for themselves.

Auburn has a tough schedule this year if you ask me. Georgia Southern had a down year last year, but we know they are competitive. Clemson, LSU, Texas A&M, Georgia, and us is a tough road to tow. Add in a possible challenge from Arkansas, and they could legitimately lose five games this year.

Reminder that CBS does NOT have a contract with the SEC the first two weeks.

CBS had the US Open contract for years until ESPN bought it a few years ago. Up until then, it was tennis on CBS, not football.

If you recall, CBS had football the first week of September last year as well as the second week. I don't remember who they televised in the second week, but they opened with A&M vs UCLA last year.

Bama's on ABC. I'm wondering who has the UF vs UM game--ABC territory again for an afternoon game. LSU is a game in Houston. All three of these games are these "made for TV" things, right? So, as the season is, CBS is "technically" getting first choice even though it's the fourth SEC game.

I'm thinking that's how it's broken down this season.

My guess is CBS takes Mizzou.

There is no selection process in the first two weeks. CBS has no contract. ESPN keeps what they want and leases the rights to CBS to whatever is left over. I suppose if CBS is willing to pay ESPN more than what ESPN is paying the SEC then ESPN would probably sell CBS any game they wanted.
