🏈 2017 NFL Draft Thread

Gotta ways to go to pass Miami for consecutive 1st round picks. One of the smartest things we have ever done in recruiting is tap into the Miami talent pool. By the time Jeudy is done, our big three out of South Florida could look historic by any yardstick.

Why did all the Alabama guys fall? The Crimson Tide was a trickle by the time it reached the shore. Some thought six or seven Alabama players would go in the first round. Four did, which isn't bad, but the first one didn't go off the board until No. 16, when teenage cancer survivor TJ Onwuanibe fist-pumped his way through the announcement of cornerback Marlon Humphrey to the Ravens. That set off a bit of an Alabama run, with Jonathan Allen going to Washington at No. 17 and O.J. Howard to the Bucs at 19. And Foster sneaked in at the end of the round when the Niners came back in to get him. Not a bad haul for the Tide, but not as brilliant as was expected. I'd expect Cam Robinson, Ryan Anderson and maybe Tim Williams to add to the ranks of newly minted 'Bama pros in the second round Friday night. Still, Thursday's little group tumble makes you wonder if there's something to this idea that NFL teams worry Nick Saban maybe grinds these guys down a bit.

The first receiver in the draft was damaged goods with a bad wheel, the first corner taken played 19 games at Ohio State and Missed 21 with a chronic, reoccurring hammy problem. Watson tore an ACL at Clemson.

OJ Howard is considered the perfect specimen for the TE position and came off the board first at the position. He was projected much higher in mock drafts and the last thing scouts thought was that we "overused" him in his 4 years at Bama.

CBS gives the 49ers the top spot for the best day one picks. They said it was masterful to get back in the 1st round and get Seattle's pick where taking Reuben Foster was a "steal" The same was said about Tampa Bay picking Howard and Allen to Washington. My conclusion: It was a crazy night where more times than people will admit these GMs are guilty of the old adage, "Paralysis through analysis."

Am I the only one who thinks Foster is better than Allen? Allen is much more beat up. Foster is much healthier. If Allen has arthritis in his shoulders, it could be a short career. Foster was a top 5 talent in the draft for me. Devastated my Lions passed on him.

For like 5 years I've never seen or heard Allen do anything but be a stand up dude. Suuuuper high character. And even with injuries he was producing and not missing games. Plus, he's just a generally smart dude. Where as Roster appears to be a dummy, and early in his career was in and out of the line up with injuries (Remmber all those concussions?). He showed this year he's extremely talented and versatile, but Allen has shown the same on the DL. Just depends on your cup of tea... But as far as general character and being a responsible millionaire, Allen is much more likely to do things right.

Concussion history has become a serious matter in the NFL. You can only sustain so many before they put you out to pasture. Foster with his concussion/neck injuries early in his career probably did him no favors.

His stock was clearly dropping throughout the process. His name coming up several times during a time when you have got to stay out of the news was... costly. I cant believe the Raiders passed on Foster. SF had to be blown away that the guy many thought SF would take with the 3rd pick slipped all the way back to them at 31. Wow. Talk about a steal.

I can't believe the Broncos took that goofy dipshit OT, Bolles. My gawd. WTF ? I could not believe my eyes. That goofy bastard of a reject project player is 25 years old ! Who tha ? What the ? Oh, no... oh hayul no. SMDH

CamRob is less of a project than Bolles ! My goodness. I will never understand that pick.

Well, to be fair, those who have criticized Saban for "abusing" his players have done so with RB in mind on offense and defense more generally. I wonder if (a) the supposed complexity of Saban's defense is to blame for him "overusing" his starting defensive personnel, and if so, if (b) Pruitt's attempt to simplify the defense is an intentional effort to spread more defensive reps around to the reserve players, especially given the prominence of the HUNH.

Valid question on b), considering how many ex players in the league say how Saban's D is more sophisticated than the pro D's they play in.

You really can’t compare the 2... different positions, different needs for teams, etc. If the question is truly which is more likely to be healthier? That’s impossible to say as well. Foster’s medicals were far from clean though.

Don't even get me started... I'm disgusted. It makes no sense. Passed on Foster & Davlin Cook for what most consider to be the 3rd OT in a bad class... And he's 25. Kid should be re negotiating his second contract at this age lol
